Sending Happy Thoughts

Are you picky about what type stamps you purchase?  I don't mean like clear or red rubber.... do you only purchase name brand stamps like Simon Says, Unity Stamps, Altenew etc.?   Or do you love the bargain stamps like Dollar Tree?

I would guess if taking a poll, our answers would vary as much as what we wear each day!  We all have our favorites and certainly have things we have sworn off of.

While I'm a bargain shopper, I've certainly become more selective in my stamp purchases over the last few years.  Recently I did pick up several new stamps at the Dollar Tree, aka the 'Five Quarter Tree' as some call it now, and found the sentiment stamps were horrible.  They didn't work well in the Misti or with an acrylic block. However the card today, this bicycle image, worked perfectly! I was totally surprised and of course pleased.

I restamped it with Versa Clair Pinecone (brown) ink on this patterned cardstock and heat embossed it for this card.  I had my colored journaling pens on my desk from the previous project, so I filled in the flowers with those.

Next I embossed the sentiment and added the yellow mat, then foam behind it and secured it to the left of the image at an angle.  I wanted a dark card base, so I cut a chocolate brown piece of cardstock down to make an A2 size card base, then secured the card front in the center.

Although I love the way this turned out, I know I will still be selectively picky about my stamp purchases.  Still nice to have a good stamp at a bargain isn't it.

You're How Old?

Here we go with another one of Beccy's Place's Cool Chicks.  This is Bea Bird and isn't she just hilarious
 ~ especially for this sentiment!

She's a fun little image to color and works with lots of different sentiments but today's card was for one of my church ladies who was celebrating a milestone birthday.   It turned out so bright and cheerful and she loved it!

After Copic coloring the bird, I used Penny Black's Elegant Stitching Rectangle dies for both the image and the coordinating patterned background matting.  Each later is secured on the A2 sized card base, with the image tilted  so the flowers were more visible.  I added three tiny pearls to add to the feminine touch and complete the design.

Will You Have Tea?

Today little Miss Olivia turns FIVE months old and her Disney Princess photo shoot is Bella and the Beast with all the elements from the story.

For her special keepsake card, I selected the tea party scene.

After sizing the image to about 3 1/2" tall, I printed it on 110# Neenah cardstock and then colored Bella using my Copic markers.  I also printed the tea cup and her name and '5 months' in a separate location on the sheet.

I carefully trimmed the cup as close as possible once he was colored and set him aside along with the words.   I used Gina Marie Designs Scalloped Stitched Rectangles for the completed Bella image.  Next I cut the dark plum cardstock slightly larger than the Bella image to use as a photo liner.

The card base is 5 3/4" square and I covered it with the yellow patterned paper.  Next I cut a 1" strip of the plum cardstock and secured it horizontally across the front of the card base.  I secured the matted image slightly to the left of center over the horizontal strip.  Using one of the smaller scalloped stitched dies in the same set, I cut the wording so the scallop would be under and to each side.  I then added that to the card front at the base of the image, followed by adding the gold 1/8" strip of gold washi tape.  Next I added a very small piece of fun foam behind the cup and secured him at the end of the words, crossing over the gold band.  Lastly I added the white organza ribbon and bow at the top fold to complete this keepsake card.

Happy Shared Birthday!

Before the month of February gets away, I wanted to share a couple of cards that I made this month for two of my girlfriends who share a birthday.   They happen to share their day on Valentine's Day which I'm sure made their parents very happy 'many' years ago!

They also both happen to like dragonflies among other things that they have in common, so I landed on Angie Blom's, Dragonfly Script digital image for their cards.

It happened to be Jennie's milestone 60th birthday.

After Copic coloring I used Gina Marie's Pierced Nested Label Dies and inked the edges with coordinating aqua ink.

Johnette's was done in Copic shades of purple with the Gina Marie X-Stitched Rectangle die.  It was inked with lavender ink before securing to the background and adding the additional layers.

I enjoyed coloring this design and used it for several other occasions this month.

Huge Wishes!

It's almost Mother's Day in the United Kingdom and the Polkadoodles Design Team has been busy making special cards for that occasion.  For my first Mother's Day card, I've selected the Special Gift Elephant from Tons of Love Elephant set.

After sizing the image for a 5 1/2" square  card base, I layered the 'HUGE wishes' sentiment from the Spring Sentiments set near the balloons.  After printing I used Copic markers for the coloring.

I selected Polkadoodles Easter Digital paper for the background and the sentiment tag. I used Pink and Main's Rounded Stitched Square and Rectangle dies for the decorative edges of each piece.  Next I mounted the completed image and the sentiment tag under it.  Lastly I added the organza bow and the enamel dots to complete the design.

From the Tips of Your Toes

One of my card swap groups has finally made it through the alphabet doing one letter each month for one of our challenges.  February brought up the final letter 'Z' and some interesting cards from the ladies!

For my card to send my partner I selected two images.  I've used the digital image from Polkadoodles for the center.  This lovely lady is Capricorn from the Zodiac Collection.  For the top layer, I used Whimsy Stamps Zipper stamp.

It might have been a bit easier if I'd selected two stamped images rather than using the digital image.  I was up for the challenge and thought she was perfect for this one.

I measured the width of the zipper opening and the depth and sized my image to fit approximately in that space.  I left a good bit of white space around her also to allow me to shift the image as needed.  After printing, I colored the image with my Copic markers.

Next I stamped the Zipper stamp on the purple cardstock using London Fog Memento Ink to give it a gray tone.  I carefully cut along the zipper on the inside 'v'.  Then I trimmed this piece on the sides to be even with the top edge of the zipper.  At this point, the bottom of the paper is still longer.

Then I placed the zipper piece on top of the colored image, lining it up to have her in the center of the zipper opening.  After measuring to get things to the right card size, making a few light marks, then I was able to trim down the image and the zipper overlay.

I used a 5 1/2" square card base and covered it with the lavender plaid paper from the Polkadoodles Toadlly Cute paper pack.  Then I secured the image and zipper overlay to the card base making sure the sides lined up properly.   I returned the card to the Misti and stamped the sentiment in the lower left corner using black Versa Clair ink.
It's a bit hard to read in the photo.  It's from CC Designs, Rockability set and it says...

You're Beautiful...
From the Tips of Your Toes
To the Depth of Your Soul

Lastly, I added the green organza ribbon and heart charm at the top fold to complete the card design.

The Cutest Bunny

I'm back today with the second posting with the All Dressed Up Design Team this month and we sharing our inspirational cards using this month's new images.

For mine, I used Bunny Hairband and made this Happy Easter card.

I started by printing the image and coloring her with Copic markers.   Then I decided to fussy cut her out - very slowly of course!

I covered the 6" square card base with the muted green paper and added the hunter green die cut grassy border across the bottom.   I used Gina Marie Designs Easter Egg Flowers dies and colorful cardstock to make the three 'egg flowers'.  After securing them in place I added the completed image to the right of the flowers.  I cut a 1/8" strip of the background paper and glued it under the girl to ground her and the yellow flower.  Lastly I die cut the 'Happy Easter' sentiment from Gina Marie Designs out of the hunter green cardstock and secured it above the other elements to complete the card design.

We Will Always Be Family

Today I'm sharing a card I recently made using Whimsy Stamps, DoveArt, Parrot Duo.  I've had this one quite a while and never gotten around to inking it up, but I really was pleased with it and certainly plan to use it again.

There are certainly lots of color combos you can select from to color parrots.  I elected to make my pair using the same color combinations with my Copic markers.

I used Gina Marie Designs Label 3 for the decorative edge after completing the coloring.  Then I inked the edges with a blue ink pad.

The card base is a standard A2 size covered in the blue palm patterned matting.  I secured the image in the center and then returned the card to my Misti and stamped the sentiment with black Versa Clair ink to complete the card design.

Rest in Him

Several months ago Fred She Said was the sponsor for the  Classic Design Challenge Blog..  Today I’m sharing another card that I created using their ‘Dogwood’ image.

I’d recently saw this technique on Beccy’s Place blog, where she cut out her colored flower and mounted on black for a sympathy card.  I really loved hers and wanted to try it.   I love the dramatic effect it gives, making your image pop, yet not over powering, especially for a sympathy card.

The beautiful die cut tag is from Stampin' Up, Stitched Labels Framelits Dies. (Thank you my enabling friend Kathy S.)

The Best Thing about Memories...

Happy Birthday to my Husband Carl!

The Best Thing About Memories is Making Them ...

Together!

For this special birthday card I ordered a new stamp specifically for his card.  This stamp is a Dove Art Studios  image named 'Train Station' by artist Jennifer Dove.

The train image itself holds many memories for him having spent a good part of his childhood and first marriage living across the road from the active railroad in our local town.  Now that chapter has ended and our story started just over three years ago. We will always treasure our good memories as we focus on the adventures our God has planned for us together.

To make this card I stamped the image on Neenah 110# cardstock and colored it using my Copic markers.  I used the Memory Box Matinee Rectangle die for the stitched edge cut.

The card base is a 6" gold card stock with a left side fold.  It's covered in a red gingham pattern with 'ticket' prints.  I added a blue mat behind the completed image, secured slightly offset at the top of the card, then added the train image.  After adding a piece of foam behind the cardboard clock, I placed it over the edge of the mat and secured it at the bottom right corner of the card front.  Lastly I added the brown twine at the card fold and a little bit of glossy accents in the window panes to complete my design.
