So Many Candles

I think most would agree that it takes special people to become medical professionals, to deal with the things they have to see and address day in and day out.  Although not as frequent, I would also add our military, police force and even our fire fighters.  For my personal upbringing in a small town, we depended on the volunteer fire department for many things other than fighting the few fires that happened. It was through their efforts and volunteered time that many local events and fund raisers were successful.  They spend hours and days together bonding and building a trust that last for years and can never be taken away.

It makes me proud that my son and my son-in-law are both following suit behind their fathers in their hometown and are volunteer firemen.  They don't back away from the call of danger although sometimes as a mother watching I might wish they would!

It's always fun to make their birthday cards honoring their chosen hobbies.  My son-in-law recently received a new certification, passing a test that was quite a challenge for him.  Saying that we are all proud of him is an understatement!  However we would have been just as proud of his efforts had the outcome been different ~ he always gives 100%.

But today's card is for his recent birthday as he turned 37.  Not a milestone birthday but definitely one with lots of candles!   One where we might need that firetruck to come help!

Happy Birthday Brandon!

Keep up the good work ~ Ya make us proud!

Today Is All About Celebrating You!

One of the big challenges we crafters love to do is combine weekend challenges.  Sketch challenges are not my favorite, not sure why but I will cave in and do one occasionally.  So this weekend we had a Sports themed card challenge and a sketch challenge that I decided to combine.  Here's my completed card then a few details about it.

Here's the sketch we were to go by ~

I selected Stamping Bella's Baseball Squidgy for my image and used Copic markers for coloring.  I matched random scraps for the sketch layers and secured to the 5 x 5 1/2" card base.  The sentiment is from Penny Blacks Sparkles & Sprinkles.

So Proud of You!

It's always a special day when our children and grand children graduate from High School or College.  With the additional struggles and challenges brought on by Covid the last two years, I think they all should be especially commended for overcoming those barriers too.

This weekend several of our family members gathered to honor one of my granddaughters, Skyla as she officially completed her home school studies, received her diploma, and turned the page to the next step in her life.

For her card I selected Polkadoodles Winnie, Graduation / You Passed from the Winnie Celebration 3 Series!  I also used digital papers from the Heaven Work N Place 10 Collection.

The image is printed on Neenah 110# cardstock and colored with Copic markers.  The Digital papers are backed with solid green that coordinates with the gown and then are layered on the 6" card base.  Both of the sentiments are from the Winnie Celebrations 3 Digital package.  For the finishing touch I added the green twine at the top and the cross charm along with a heartfelt personal note to her filled with love and best wishes for her future.

I Sure Do Miss You!

I don't know about you, but I'm thrilled that today is FRIDAY!  After a little mini vacation last weekend, this has been a very long week.  As I colored this Lili of the Valley image (Fab Fisherman), it truly calmed my soul.  By adding the clouds behind the image, the depth increases making him look even smaller and even more isolated as he fishes all by himself.

Some days we need to be alone. We get so caught up in the hustle of the world and our daily issues, we seek just a few quiet minutes to think or just to relax.  I know my husband and I love our 'porch time' here, where we can spend a few minutes or a few hours and never say a word.  That peaceful time revives our souls, recharges our batteries, helps us to refocus ourselves for the next day's goals.

What about you?  Where do you find your time to recharge?

For this card, I printed the image on Neenah 110# cardstock and used Copic markers for coloring.  The decorative edging was done using Gina Marie Designs Nested Labels 3.

A Million Thanks

As some of our daily things return to a new normal, what are you thankful for?

One of the things that I'm grateful for today is being able to physically return to attending Sunday School and church worship services. While we've been blessed with alternate ways of worshiping during the restricted times, it's just not the same as sitting together, praying together, and sharing concerns or praises with each other.

Today's featured card is an image from Rachel Ann Miller ~ her Giraffe & Bird ~ which you all know how I LOVE giraffes!  I've added my thank you sentiment (from Penny Black, Grateful Heart) to this card and prepared it to be mailed to one of my church members who I'm grateful for.  I'd encourage you today to think about something/someone that you are thankful that has returned to 'normal'.  Maybe they would like to know you appreciate them too!

Grumpy Goose with a Reminder

Over the weekend one of my card groups' challenge was for Christmas Cards with the addition that the card had to be non-traditional colors.

For mine, I selected one of the digital stamps from Beccy's Place.  Although I did use some red, my focus was on the yellow/golds. The image and sentiment are from her Grumpy Goose package.

Here's my finished card ~

To make this card, I sized the goose to fit the horizontal position on the A2 card base.  Then I added the sentiment (which is simply love!).  After printing on Neenah 110# card stock, I used my Copic markers for coloring.

The edge die cut is the Penny Black Elegant Stitching Rectangle die set.  The chocolate brown card base is cut from a 12 x 12 as I wanted that dark contrasting color.  Then I added the yellow/gold matting, followed by the red swiss dot matting, then the completed image.  For the final touch I added the country heart for the "i" in Christmas.

BOY MOM

Today I'm sharing one of the Stamping Bella images done in a Clean and Simple card.  Curvy Girl BOY MOM has only been out for a couple of months but sure is showing up everywhere.

I stamped this image and sentiment on Neehah 110 # card stock and used my Copic markers for coloring.  When completed, I took marker B23 and drew in the dark edging around the sides to make it appear to have a liner mat.  I covered the A2 sized card stock with the blue dotted papers and the horizontal 1-1/2" solid strip.  Then I secured the Stamping Bella image to the card base.  Since this one is going in my personal stash, I didn't add the bow - I will do that once I select it for mailing.

I Love You MOWER Each Day

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads!  While your kids may think you are the best ever, I'd have to disagree.  My Dad has already taken that Number 1 spot!

Dad has always been one who can't sit still long. Being outside, working in his yard, building in his shop or even working on the computer doing drafting and house plans, he's always busy.

Even now in his mid 80's keeping up with his 8 acre farm is his Joy!  This month's images from Imagine That Digi Stamps - Lawn Ranger had a great image for me to use.  I hope you can check this package out as it has FOUR male images doing different yard activities.

So here's my take on one of these images and the card I made for My Number One Dad on Father's Day.

I've colored the image with my Copic markers and then used the Whimsy Zig-Zag die for the borders and the green basket weave paper.  Both layers are mounted on an A2 Kraft card base.

TruLuv

For the friends that follow my cards and know a little about me, you know that Carl and I shocked many last February 14th when we posted we had just gotten married!  It had to have been the biggest secret we had ever kept for two months prior - not even telling our family of the plans we were making.

But with all of us being in the middle of Covid with the gathering restrictions imposed, and the choice of maintaining our privacy ~ it was perfect for us.  We put any honeymoon plans on hold then as the task of relocating him and getting his home ready to go on the market was huge and a bit overwhelming.

Now, just four short months later, we are celebrating our delayed honeymoon and enjoying a few days at the coast.

I've selected Scribbles Designs 'TruLuv' today to make a card for my sweetie honoring and celebrating our new lives together.

The image was hand colored using my Copic markers.  Since I'm away from home, I didn't have any card making supplies with me.  Plus I had just received a new digital paper package from my friend Kris - the Owner and Artist at Imagine That Digi Stamps.  The digital paper is from her Beach Combing package.

Using Photoshop Elements 12, I added the multiple layers of beachy papers and the red solid.  The top layer is the sentiment tag that I typed the words and added the bottom solid layer.  Like you do when you do your card layouts, using all these layers adds to my ability to move them around until I get the look I'm happy with.

Best Friend Hugs!

I'm posting today with the Polkadoodles Design Team.  For our Girly Cards with Contrasting Colors challenge, I've selected Honeypie Best Friend Hugs from the Honeypie Bundle.  Using hot pink and royal blue colors as my contrasting colors here's what I came up with.

After printing on Neenah 110# cardstock, I used my Copic markers for coloring this sweet image.  For the multiple layers, I used Whimsy Stamps Notched Stitched Square die set. The blue patterned paper is from Winnie Celebrations 2 digi package
For the embellishments, I selected a row of die cut pink hearts from my stash, three tiny enameled hearts and the sentiment from the Winnie Sunshine Delight package

Dust Bunnies

Today I'm here with a new week at the Colour Crazy Challenge. I'm sharing the 'Spring Cleaning' digi from Oddball Arts Creepy Cute Chronicles.  We're happy to have this artist with us this week and appreciate the sponsorship.

Here's what I came up with ~

Inspired by the waves in her hair on this image, I decided to make her a woman of color.  Using Copics N1, N3, N5, N7 for her hair gave the image the highlights and kept the artist lines.

To achieve her pretty caramel skin tone I used Copics E21, E04, E11, E30, and E35.  The dress colors were selected to match the patterned paper - BG10, BG11, and BG13.  for the bunny and shoes I used R81 and R85, then matched that combo to get the pink border strip at the top of the card.

Once my coloring was complete, I used the Spellbinder Curved Rectangle Die set (S5-006) to get the pretty edge and for the topper pieces.  I also used BG13 to carefully add the edge color for additional contrast.

After adhering all the layers to the A2 sized card base, I finished the card by adding the moss green twine.
