Beware of Spooky Things!

 Happy Halloween Weekend!!!

Today's card is a combination of images from several packages at Polka Dot Orchard.  You'll find if you click on any of the names throughout the blog, they are linked back to the store for more information and purchasing.

I use Photoshop Elements to make my layouts for digital cards so my instructions are written as I 'add layers'.  There are many other software programs that work well in the digital world so don't feel you have to follow these steps.  Use what works for you.

To make my project card, I started with the Haunted House from the Come On Over package by Jeanie Hayes.  I sized the house to about 3" tall and 2" wide.  Next I added the word BEWARE (from the same package) across the top.  I didn't worry about the size of the word at this point.

The next layer ~ the moon ~ from the Spooktacular Night package ( also by Jeanie Hayes) and then the tombstones.  Lastly I grabbed the tree from The Arrival of Fall package (by Lea Keisling) and layered it behind the tombstones.

After sizing the images to the proportions that looked visually appealing to me, I printed the card front on Neenah 110# card stock and used my Copic markers for coloring.   I used clear Wink of Stella on several of the windows and a few other smaller elements to give them a little sparkle.

For the background, I used Seedless Preserves Oxide Ink with a die cut cloud stencil and a make up brush.

I die cut the colored image and the solid purple mat with Gina Marie Designs Labels #1 dies and then mounted both on a six inch black card base. Lastly I randomly added several silver mirror dots from Gina Marie Designs

We've Been Friends For So Long

We all know it takes a LONG time to Grow OLD friends and how very blessed we are to be able to call someone a true friend.  It is an investment of time, commitment of trust and relationship building from all parties and certainly can be crushed a lot fast than the time it takes to build.

Today's card is made using Canadian Artist Angie Blom's Giraffe Trio  with one really cute sentiment about long time friendships.

To make this card, I actually used the predesigned slimline printout that comes in the digital package.  It is already laid out just as shown with the two giraffe's to the left and three to the right with the sentiment in the middle.

After printing on Neenah 110# card stock, I colored the giraffe's with my Copic markers and then made the cloudy sky background using my die made stencil paper patterned cloud sky and three shades of chalking Ink by Quick Quotes.

When completed, I die cut the completed top layer using a Rounded Stitched Rectangle die by Pink & Main.  I mounted the colored image on an 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" slimline coordinating blue card base.  For the final touch I added a small wooden 'love' heart to the bottom left corner.

It's All A Bunch of Hocus Pocus

Today I'm tossing out an extra Halloween card from one of Jan's Digital Stamp Shop. I made this card using her Hocus Pocus set (which is currently on sale) for my teenage grandson.

He's always loves to receive mail and to watch all the scary TV shows and movies.  I think he will get a little laugh out of this card too.  Inside the greeting says 'Beware of people wearing MASKS!'

To make this card, I took the three different images  (set of three bottles, the skull, and the word sentiment) and layered them on a card base in Photoshop Elements.  I printed the card front on Neenah 110 # card stock and then used my Copic markers for coloring. Next I die cut the edges with the Pink and Main Rounded Stitched Rectangle die, then added the black and white washi tab vertically just past the image and glued the ends to the back.  I cut a black liner for this image before adding to the card front.  The card base is a standard Kraft A2 sized base,  I covered the front with the orange patterned paper, then offset the black image and added the black enamel dots.

Monochromatic Christmas Card Challenge

Over the weekend on my card swap group, the challenge was for us to make a Monochromatic Christmas card.  It was all I could do to get to my craft room this weekend for a few minutes.  How about you?

So here it is late Sunday night and I'm scrambling to come up with something for the challenge.   I've landed on Penny Black's 'Snowy' Stamp and a Slimline card design.

I started by stamping the snowman on Neenah 110# card stock and colored the hat and scarf with a Copic marker.  I die cut the image using Spellbinders Labels Eight die and added diamond stickles around the fur on top of the hat and on the buttons.

I cut the purple Scalloped Stitched slimline piece using Gina Marie's Scalloped Stitched Slimline die and added to the slimline card base.  I used Sizzix Thinlets Die Set Christmas Phrases 2 words to die cut "Holiday Cheer' out of coordinating purple card stock and added all to the card base.  To finish the card, I added a thin silver metallic thread that has bling woven within and tied a loopy bow at the top.

Mermaids Have More Fun!

Today I'm here with the Design Team for Colour Crazy Challenge Blog and our sponsor this week is Oddball Art Co.  For my project card, I've selected the Whimsical Big Eye Mermaid Nixie Spirit of the Sea Image No. 320.

Here's my completed card and a few details~

I printed the image on Neenah 110 # card stock and used my Copic markers for coloring.  I covered an A2 sized card base with a mint green wavy patterned paper and die cut the pink 'Beloved Hearts' by Memory Box to match the mermaid.  Next I fussy cut her out and decided the placement of the hearts before gluing anything down.

I secured the layers ~ the hearts down first, then added the sentiment and lastly the mermaid to complete the card.

I Hope You Get Well Soon

Today I'd like to share with you a cute get well card from Polka Dot Orchard's 'At the Nurse's Station' by Artist Jessica Pickeral.  This set comes with one image and eight sentiments which are all filled with humor!

For this card I sized the nurse image to about 3" x 2 1/2" and added the selected sentiment close under the uniform on the left side.  I printed it on Neenah 110# card stock and colored her with my Copic markers.  I used the My Favorite Things Stitched Scalloped Basic Edge die for the curved edge.  I covered an A2 card base with the blue dotted paper and then added the colored image.  Afterwards I added the three navy enamel dots to complete the card.

When I Am Grateful

Today I'd like to share one of the larger background flower stamps from Picket Fence Stamps.  For this card I have used their  large sunflower from the Face the Sun set.

I used my Misti to stamp this image on Neenah 110 # card stock and then used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used Gina Marie Designs In and Out Cut Stud Dot Square die for the edging of the colored image, then added the Kraft edging matting paper.

I covered the 5" card base with the green gingham matting paper then added the colored image and Kraft matting.   On a piece of white card stock I stamped the word Grateful and used the die that comes with this stamp.  I really like the way the larger die makes the stamp appear to have a shadowed effect.

Give Thanks

Sending cards of encouragement is what we card makers do best.  We love to make our cards, we love to participate in challenges (and win too!) but we really love to share our work with others and bring a smile to someone's face when they are down and out.

Today's card was made for a dear friend of mine who has been receiving chemo treatments and struggling a bit.  It's been a battle for him over the last months and today he had to undergo surgery.  He and his wife are probably two of the strongest Christians I know.  I have no doubt that even through this valley - tonight they are together giving thanks for the surgery and the healing hands of our Lord and savior.

This wreath was designed by Polka Dot Orchard's artist Jeanie Hays.  The name of the package is Forever Blessed and it comes with the wreath image and three sentiments.

I colored the circle of fall leaves, berries and vegetables with my Copic markers, staying true to the fall foliage in greens, golds, yellows and reds.  I used an identical size ruby red circular stitched matting and off set it to the left. I matted both pieces onto an orange and brown dotted paper and then onto an A2 standard Kraft card base.  For the final step I added a brown organza ribbon and matching double bow to the center of the card front.

I'll be praying for his complete recovery from this surgery with no complications and giving thanks that we know our Master Healer is at work always.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I enjoy sharing my work with you and invite you to “Follow” my blog and to visit my site ~ “Not Just Scraps” on Facebook ~ where you can purchase my cards.

I Put A Spell On You!

It's mid month and time for a little Halloween inspiration with a 'spooky' image from Jan's Digital Stamp Shop.  For today's card I'm using Hocus Pocus.  Here's my finished card, then a few details about making it.

I started this project by making several Distressed Oxide backgrounds.   I find it's easier to get the Oxides and stencils out and make a variety at one time, clean up the mess and have a nice supply rather than doing one at a time.  This witch hat stencil is by Carta Bella and with it being the 6" square size it was perfect for making this size card.  I used two shades of purple, two shades of yellow/orange oxides, and I also used the make up brushes to apply the oxides.

For the image part of the card, I pulled in the set of two jars into a blank document and then added the single jar.  I sized them to be about 3" tall.  On a separate area in my document I pulled in the sentiment I wanted to use and sized it about 1" tall and a little over 4" long.  I printed these on Neenah 110 # card stock and colored the bottles with my Copic markers.

I used a pale dusty rose 12 x 12 paper cut in half to make my 6 x 6" card base.  I cut the Witch Hat stenciled piece to fit just inside the card base and secured it down.  I used the Gina Marie Designs Nested Labels #1 to die cut the colored image and secured it to the card then die cut the sentiment with a stitched fish tail die and secured it to the card.  To complete the card, I added one lavender bling dot on the tag and three gold randomly around the colored image.

Grande Swirls ~ With Sympathy

Today I'd like to share a quick and easy Sympathy card I made using the Crafter's Companion Grande Swirls Gemini Die and the 'With Sympathy' from the Elegant Occasions Sentiments Glorious Glimmer Hot Foil Classic Plates by Becca Feeken.

To make this card I die cut the background Grande Swirls using white heavy card stock and secured it to the red A2 sized card base.  Then I used my Spellbinder Hot Foiling machine and heated the With Sympathy die, with a piece of rose gold foil and a scrap of white card stock.  When the system heated properly I die cut the sentiment with the proper die that matched the selected sentiment then after cooling, applied it to complete the card.

No Matter How Tall You Grow

Today I'd like to share another great image from Polka Dot Orchard.  This handsome giraffe is from Stand Up Guy by Artist Christina Hope.

To make this card I sized the giraffe to fit on an A2 sized card front and then added the sentiment beside him.  I printed this on Neenah 110# card stock and used my Copic markers for coloring.

I used one of the My Favorite Things Stitched Scalloped Basic Edges Dies for the edge turning it on opposite ends to get the angled effect. I double matted the card using a weathered wood grain card stock and then an orange solid paper.  After securing the matting to the A2 white card base, I added the colored image to complete the card.
