Honoring Memorial Day Hero's ~ He Loves What is Behind Him

For my weekend challenge on Addicted to Card Making and to also honor our Memorial Day Hero's, I wanted to design a card around my sentiment stamp.

This sentiment says it all ~ the men and women that proudly serve are protecting what and who they are leaving behind.  This sweet Unity stamp... Always With You, also reminds us not only of the prayers we send with each soldier, but of the innocent children waiting for their parents to return.  Each piece surrounded with tiny heart background paper, for our hearts go with our soldiers.

If you or your family member is currently or has in the past served, I thank you today for your service and for caring what you are fighting for.  May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you!

Thank you for stopping by today and may your day be filled with God's rich blessings.

May Your Day Be a Ride In the Park

Although I made this card last weekend in celebration of National Ride Your Bike to Work Day ~ I truly made it for my friend Amy to celebrate her birthday, which is today, May 26., thus it couldn't be blogged until today!

Since Amy has been sick recently and in the hospital, I wanted a cheerful birthday card that also had some encouragement added even though I've never met Amy~ our friendship is virtual.

This Stamps of Life set just seemed to fit perfectly.  After stamping and die cutting the bike, I added black shiny Wink of Stella to the wheels and petals and grey Wink of Stella to the frame.  Then used lots of pop up squares to raise the bike up and give it the moving effect with the addition of the black shadow lines.  The basket is filled with multi colored mini silk flowers and the centers are 3mm flat backs that can be purchased from Lori's Lovely Paper Crafts, linked here.  The sentiment is part of the Sweet and Sassy set but it is die cut using the Gina Marie Fish Tail Banner dies.

Hope you will join me in wishing AMY a very Happy Birthday over in North Carolina and continue to make other fun Happy Birthday cards to send to those special friendships you have.

Thank you for stopping by today and for following my blog postings.  I truly means a lot to me.

After the Water Brooks ~ WAW 284-285

This week on Word Art Wednesday, Karen has selected a KJV of Psalm 42:1 for the challenge.   Although the 'hart panteth' certainly reminds me of a deer or other animal of nature, the calming 'after the water brooks' spoke to me for my card selection tonight.

Using the Gina Marie Violet Pinwheel Die with shades of purple and metallic gold allowed me to give the card a stained glass affect for the flowers... like they were reflecting the water at the brook.  I really like reflecting thoughts as we study God's word and reflective photography seems to be dominant in my life as well.

If you would like to use this scripture to make your card, visit WAW blog here to grab the free download.

Thank you for stopping by today and may your day be blessed.

ATCM Weekend Challenge ~ Musical Instrument

This weekend's card challenge on Addicted to Card Making gave us two different challenges of 'National' ...not so well known.... holidays to use as themes for our card making.
Monday, May 22 is National Purchase a Musical Instrument Day ~ Bet you didn't know that one?

However, having watched Jennifer McQuire's YouTube video this week on a new twist on a shaker card using Tulle, this is the MUSIC card I submitted for my challenge card.

The video reference is here and this is what I found a bit different as I constructed my card.
What a great idea! The tulle is easy to work with, using double sided tape is fast and the open mesh of the tulle allows the layers to stick together well.
It is important to use FLAT shaker items.  Even the little pointed edges of my music notes want to catch on the netting if I shake the card too hard.
I used an "off-brand" stitched oval nesting dies for my windows, and found that there was more difference in the sizes than appears to be in Jennifer's example.  Thus I ended up adding the additional black frame to cover up some of the opening, making it look more complete and balanced.
I'm certainly going to use this technique again - I believe the next time it will go a little faster...although never as smooth and fast as Jennifer seems to make it look in her wonderful videos!
Hope you'll try this Tulle Shaker card technique out also ~ and thank you for stopping by today!

Double Dutch Door Specialty Fold

Last month I wrote about the Tech Challenge on ATCM and how intimidating they could be - but how good they are for our growth, in trying new techniques.  This month the Tech Challenge was to do a Specialty fold (more than one fold) ~ Our Choice.  And who do I get as my swap partner? My BFF who is the most awesome card maker and knows how to do ALL the fancy folds... again fear creeps in as I put off this card as long as I can.

But through a Pinterest posting by Angie Leach on Too Cool Stamping , I was inspired to put my twist on a Barn Shaped card using a Specialty Fold called the
Double Dutch Door.

I combined two stamp sets for this project - the Hey Chick! banner and silly Aqua haired roof chicken are from the Stampin Up set Hey Chick!.

The other animals are from the Cottage Cutz Farm Animals set (purchased from Bargain Outlet).

As you raise the roof and open the barn doors, inside you find more animals along with the area to write your note.

I believe this is a 'fancy fold' I'd like to use again with a different stamp set. How about you?  I'd love to see your ideas!

Thank you for stopping by  ~ I hope you enjoyed my card posting.

A Friend is like Sunshine

A Friend is One Who, Like Sunshine, Helps You Grow.

Today's card was especially made for one of my lifetime girlfriends
who celebrated her birthday last week.

Another Whimsy stamp by Sylvia Zet, Wee Florist from her Gardner Series is the perfect image for my friend who loves to be working in her beautiful yard as much as anything.

Yet this girlfriend's 'SONshine' comes from the Lord and is always a strong shoulder or listening ear to those she meets each and every day.
How blessed I am to have shared this friendship for over 20 years!

Thank you for stopping by today.  I hope my card has brightened your day.

With still a week to go till National Strawberry Day, today's card  depicts a sweet little girl  all dressed in her strawberry outfit and matching purse and ready to wish her little friend a very Happy Birthday!

The image I used is a Penny Black, Inc stamp that is stamped on Bright White Neenah Card Stock and Copic colored.  The red corner Happy Birthday die is by La-La Land Crafts.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope my card brought a smile to your day.  This card can be ordered custom ordered through my site, Not Just Scraps.

May Envelope Challenge ~ ATCM

This month's envelope challenge on Addicted to Card Making came with a diverse list of supplies for the fifteen participants to make our cards from.  Each of us were to use part of each piece and could add up to two additional pieces.
For my card, I decided on a mason jar stamped image to hold my fussy cut, copic colored flowers.

Here are the original items supplied by the hostess:

My mason jar is stamped on the green card stock provided.  Flowers and bee are copic colored and fussy cut from the image.  I inked the ribbon to match the copic RV55 flower and cut in a banner style.  The small stitched vellum heart is die cut from the center of the tag provided using a Gina Marie Stitched Heart Die, and the top heart is hand cut from the white card stock flower that was the last piece included.  No additional items were added to my card as I will add the sentiment prior to use.

What would you do with these supplies? The results are always amazing when 15 ladies are giving the same envelope of items.
Thank you for stopping by today and for following my blog postings.

I. C. U.

While I had my Art Impressions Get Well Now stamp set out for Nurse's Week, I decided to put together one of their funny antics for a get well card to have on hand.

The expressions on the faces of the Art Impression characters are priceless as the artist who designs them which I had the honor of meeting last year.

Guess this is one card I hope I keep on the shelf for quite a while!

Thanks for stopping by ~

National Nurse's Day ~ May 6

Today's card is in honor of National Nurse's Day - May 6th.
We are also celebrating those special ladies over on Addicted to Card Making with our Weekend Challenge.
For my card I used the Nurse image from the Art Impressions Get Well Set and added two sentiments from my personal stash.

Once copic colored and die cut with the stitched rectangle dies, a peach loopy bow was added for the finishing touch .
My thank you card will be mail to a special nursing friend who is always willing to help me understand the medical terms and steer me in the right direction through some tough health decisions.  I am so grateful for her big blessings!

How about you?  Who is your favorite nurse?  And have you told her how much she (or he) is appreciated lately?  No time like the present!

The Song In My Heart ~ CCM Sketch Challenge

One thing I particularly enjoy about being an early riser,
is the early morning silence that is softly broken just before daylight by the robins and sparrows beginning their songs for the day.  For my submission to the Christian Card Maker's Sketch challenge this week, I wanted to capture that joy in my card.

How special it is to start the morning with the sweet song of Jesus in my heart.  The days that are begun with Him in a time of devotion and prayer always seem to be able to withstand the battles of the day as He carries me. Thank you Heavenly Father for the joy of the birds and their songs that fill the air.

Here's the sketch we used this week ~ give it a try.
I made mine a 3 1/2" x 9" to fit in a legal size envelope.

Thank you for stopping by!

Batman Day ~ May 1st

Another one of those silly, wacky holidays ~ BATMAN DAY ~
May 1, 1939 when Batman made his debut in the Detective Comics.

Creating a card in honor of Batman Day was also the weekend challenge on
Addicted to Card Making.
This cute little House Mouse stamp that is normally used at Halloween was the perfect match for the Batman card.

It's Monday - Hope the card brought a smile to your day like so many of the wacky holiday's do.
Blessings for your week!
