Have a Roaring Good Time

It's time for the July Classic Design Challenge and our sponsor for this month is SheepSki Designs.

For my project card, I selected Bryan's Baby and made a very special guy, Mr. Frank,  his 92nd Birthday card.

It's not every day that we know someone turning 92, so why not celebrate with a 1930's Magenta Pink convertible!

After sizing the image to just under 4" long, I printed it on Neenah 110# cardstock and used Copic markers for coloring.  I stamped the three sentiments from Crafter's Companion's, 'All that Jazz' and 'Roaring 20's' sets.

The card base is a dark gray 6" square.  I added a 2" metallic magenta strip, then a 1" metallic gold strip down the left folded edge.  Next I secured the colored image in the center, then added the sentiments around the top and bottom edges. Lastly I added the die cut numbers '92' to the top right to complete the fun and memorial birthday.

Happy Birthday America

How blessed we are as a nation to be free in so many ways! While each day we seem to take these freedoms for granted, I hope that during this fourth of July celebration you will be able to take time to be thankful for your many blessings.

So today I'm celebrating with this Stampendous, House Mouse image called Sparkler Art.

Little Mudpie is busy with both hands wishing America a Happy Birthday!

I've colored the mouse and grass with Copic markers and left the sparkler art uncolored while I ran it through the die machine.  I used Gina Marie Designs Labels Six for the decorative edge.

After attaching the multi polka-dotted background to a standard A2 white card base, I added the colored image.  Then I traced over the sparkle art using Nuvo Glitter Pens from Scrapsalot, LLC.  For the final touch I added a glittered enamel dot in the center of each design.

Just Breathe

Today I'd like to share a card I made for a recent 'Butterfly' Challenge.

I had just received this new stamp from Unity Stamp Company ~ perfect timing!
This is 'Falling Into Place', by designer Sandhya Iyer.

After stamping, I decided to make her monochromatic using only three shades of Copic markers.  I selected RV55, RV66, RV69 and went to work.  I just love this image!

Afterwards I took Copic BG11 and flicked around the edges to soften the look.  Then I returned the image to my Misti and stamped the sentiment.

For the decorative edge I used the Tattered Lace Nested Beaded Chain Rectangle die.  After covering the A2 card base with the coordinating striped paper, I added the completed image.  I felt like this was pretty without any additional embellishment or bows.

All That Jazz!

Today's card was made in honor of an amazing lady in my husband's family who will be turning 98 on July 4th!

This sweet soul continues to live alone and maintaining her independence with grace and a sound mind.  As we visited with her yesterday, we were in awe as she told stories of long ago or of just yesterday - all with complete accuracy.  If you are like we are, we have trouble remembering what we had for supper the night before!

For her special card this year, I selected C. C. Designs, 20's Gals, which she immediately said reminded her of Betty Boop, as she chuckled.

I also incorporated a weekend sketch challenge as I put the card together after coloring the image.

I used a gray 6" x 5" card base and covered it with the pink floral paper cut 1/4" smaller.  The scalloped edged tags were perfect for adding the decorative edge peeking around the circular image. I stamped the sentiment (from Stampendous)  then taped it so that each edge was die cut to fit the larger banner tag.  After securing all the layers, I then added the three deep red enamel dots and the tiny white pearl on her necklace to complete the card.

Color Challenge ~ Heartfelt Thanks

Today I'm sharing a card I made over the weekend for a color challenge in one of my card swap groups.

For this challenge I selected Lee Holland's Piglet with Flower and made this Thank You card.

These were the color combos we were given with white, black, gray and kraft brown being our neutral free colors.

I stayed pretty close to the basic five shades only adding an extra blue for the under side of the hat and an additional shade of salmon for the skin shading.

After coloring, I used the Gina Marie Designs Nested Scalloped Stitched Rectangles for the decorative edge. Then I added the stamped sentiment in the top corner.  Next I added the solid red coordinating mat which I cut slightly larger than the die cut rectangle.  For the card base I selected a soft yellow polka-dotted patterned cardstock, then secured the two layers on top.

You Stack Up!

Today I'm sharing the card I made for a 'Use Your Scraps' Challenge which is also the card I made for my son for Father's Day.  As I've mentioned in previous postings, my son's career is in tree removal services so I've selected C.C. Designs Lumberjack Louis and the corresponding die set.

Here's the completed card, then the details on how I made it.

I started by stamping the lumberjack and then masking off just the squirrel and stamping several extra ones. I used my Copic markers to color these stamped images and cut each out.

I used a scrap of brown woodgrain cardstock to die cut the tree stump and a scrap of 'tree' paper to cut the 2" vertical strip.   I also stamped the sentiment from the same set on a scrap of white cardstock using brown Versa Clair ink.

Next I made the chocolate brown card base 5 1/2" square with the side fold and covered the front with the green patterned paper cut 1/4" smaller than the cover size.

Then it was just a matter of gluing the layers starting at the bottom, with the green matting and vertical tree strip. Next I added the tree stump with the two extra squirrels, then the lumberjack and lastly the sentiment.   Inside I added a white
4 1/2" blank square for writing the personal message.

You're A Classic Dad!

Today I'd like to share another really special card - this one I was commissioned to make for a friend to give to her Dad for Father's Day.  Her Dad's career was with the Coca Cola Company and we all know they are amazing people that are very dedicated ~ especially the 'older generation' that grew up with this product!

I knew this needed to be a special card for sure to honor this man on his day!

I selected the My Favorite Things Soda Pop Bottles stamps and die set and made this amazing Shaker Card with Icy Glazed Classic Coke bottles.

I started by stamping and die cutting the two coke bottles, then Copic coloring them to resemble true bottles of Coke.

I almost stopped here - honestly I wasn't so sure about putting glossy accents on the bottles.  I wanted them 'icy and shiny' but was a bit afraid I'd mess them up and have to start over!  So I took a scrap and tried it just on the top.

Cool - that worked - so I covered both the bottles and set them aside to dry overnight.

Next, I made the rectangle shaker for the center using Whimsy Stamp Rectangle Shaker Die and several shades / shapes of gold shinny beads and sequins.  Once that was completed and added to the large 5 x 8 aqua card base, I added the red dotted DAD letters at the top and the small stamped circle 'You're a Classic' in the center of the 'a'.

I took the 2" strip at the bottom, and wound the coordinating blue string around three times then knotted the fish tale sentiment in the center.  I added a couple of adhesive dots on the edges to lift it slightly and keep it angled.  Then I added this strip to the bottom of the card base.

When everything was secured, then I added the two coke bottles at the right edge of the shaker box, overlapping slightly, using bits of foam on the edge to keep them secure and raised where needed.

I leave all my card blank in side as I encourage my customers to write in them rather than depending on a stamped sentiment.  Not sure what she wrote but he sure does look like he was pleased, as this is the photo I received Sunday night.

Makes me so happy to be able to be a part of these special celebrations.  Thanks be to God for allowing me to have this talent.  For without HIM I could do nothing!

God Bless the USA

Here we are just past the middle of the month of June... and most of us are simply going WOW ~ where is this year going?

I'm posting this morning with my teammates from Jan's Digital Stamp Shop for our midmonth inspirational day. I've selected Jan's Star Spangled Wreath and made a 5 1/2" square easel card.

Here's my completed card ~

To make this card, I started by printing the image 'with the blue in the flag'.  Normally I use just the black/white images but with those tiny little stars, the digital blue coloring done by the artist really adds to the completed card. Next I used the Copic Sepia Multi liner pen to complete the grapevine wreath. After that, I could 'relax' and use my Copic markers for coloring the remainder of the image.

I used the Carnation Crafts Pretty Shabby Square Labels for the edging on the image and also on the burgundy red matting.  The card base is 5 1/2" square and cut from a lighter shade of blue.  The top flap is scored at 2 3/4" from the edge and folded again to make the easel area.  This is where the colored image is secured to.

To hold the easel in place I die cut the word Celebrate out of a scrap of the card base light blue and added a small foam tab under the 'C', then secured the word to the base of the folded card.  This allowed the top folded tent a place to rest, thus forming the easel.

Pretty as a Picture

Happy Saturday from the Polkadoodles Design Team as we are bringing you cards today that are not a square or rectangle.

I've selected an oval shape for presenting the beautiful Bluebell, from The Darling Buds Collection.

To make this card I started with the digital image and sized her to just under five inches tall!  After printing her on Neenah 110# cardstock, I used four shades of Copic blue for the dress and flowers to make her mostly a monochromatic card although I do have the greens of the stems and leaves.

I used a single oval die to cut her to fit inside the blue lacy precut oval.  I also cut the same size oval, overlapping on the fold to make the card which I attached to the back of the blue die cut.   Once she was secured to the front, then I added Clear Wink of Stella on all the flowers and her outfit.  Lastly, I added the glass water droplets around the image to complete the card design.

Baby Pooh

Recently I was commissioned to make a 'Pooh Bear' card for a baby shower.  The theme was to include Pooh bear and honey bees and the baby on the way is going to be a boy!

Here's what I came up with ~

I started with this sweet Baby Pooh image (Google Search - Baby Pooh) leaning on his little honey pot.  I added three little bee images and typed the sentiment, then printed on Neenah 110# cardstock.  I used Copic markers for coloring and then selected the coordinating blue solid and yellow honeycomb matting papers.

I used Memory Makers Matinee Rectangle dies for the decorative stitched edges on each of these pieces.  I picked a 5 1/2" top fold card base and added the deep red mat, cut 1/8" smaller than the card front. Next I secured the mats starting with the yellow - vertically, then the blue - horizontally, then the image - horizontally on top of the blue.  Once they were dry, then I added the blue twine webbing at the top fold, the small bow and secured the tiny wooden bee in the center to complete the card.

I love how cute this card turned out and hope that it was a hit at the baby shower!

Walk by Faith

Today I'm sharing a card I made for a weekend challenge to use 'scraps'.   I've also used Pink & Main's, Flip Flop stamp set and the sentiment from Jillibean, Prayers set.

I started with the scrap of white cardstock and stamped three of the sets of flip flops in descending sizes, then colored them with my Copic markers.  I used a slimline stitched tag and die cut that strip to fit an A2 card front.

Next I stamped the sentiment 'Walk by Faith, not by sight" on another scrap of white cardstock and die cut that also in a stitched tag shape.

I found two coordinating pieces of lime green patterned cardstock for the other card pieces. Using a top fold Kraft card base, I covered the front with the polka-dotted paper.  Then I added the vertical strip which I trimmed about 1/2" wider than the flip flop strip.

I secured the flip flop image and the sentiment next then added the coordinating twine around the top of the card base.  Finally I added the tiny yellow cross charm to complete the scrap card.
