The Quieter You Become

Today I'm sharing a sympathy card I recently made using Inky Antics 'Fishing Favorites'.

When my husband came home from work and asked me to make a sympathy card for him for work, I of course wanted to know about the person he needed it for.   He replied it was for a salesman that he didn't know well but really liked and he had just lost his wife suddenly.

So this image popped up when I did a masculine search in my Evernote and looked like it would work well.

After printing on Neenah 110# cardstock, I used my Copic markers for coloring,   I love using plaid papers for masculine cards, and die cut the edges with the Memory Box Matinee Rectangle die.

I used a standard size A2 Kraft card base.  Before adding the layers to the base, I secured them together and then did a double wrap of brown twine on the left side.  At the knot I added the little fish hook charm.  Then I secured this grouping to the Kraft card base to complete the card.

The Rest of the Story... The next time the salesman came to my husband's office, he told him how much the handmade card meant to him. The two were able to chat and my husband was able to share how he knew exactly what this guy was going through having lost his first wife suddenly.  You just never know where one of your cards are going to end up and how it may truly help someone through a difficult time.   What joy that brings to me and to you I'm sure.

I'm Stuck On You

I'm here this afternoon with the Design Team for the  Classic Design Challenge as we roll out the September challenge.  Our sponsor for this month is Polkadoodles and we are excited to share a few cards of inspiration with you. Be sure to check out the new challenge to see all the Design Team Cards and to enter yours too!

For my project card, I'm sharing 'Stick With Me' which is part of the Honeypie Collection.

To make this card, I sized the image to just under 4" and printed it on Neenah 110# cardstock.  I used my Copic markers for coloring her in several bright orange and aqua shades.  I used a generic cross stitch rectangle die for the edges of the image and the background piece also.

The Kraft card base is 5.5" square, covered in a lime patterned paper.  I added the 1 1/2" horizontal strip next and then secured the image and rectangular mat at a slight angle.  Lastly I added the fishtail cut sentiment on the top right side.  I think she turned out super cute!

National Doggy Day

This morning I wanted to share with you the card I made this weekend for National Doggy Day.

My image is from All Dressed Up and it was a freebie in 2020.  This is 'Cute Just Got Cuter'.

For those that craft with me or follow this blog, you know this simple one layer card was extremely hard for me.  I'm just not a fan of white space.

But he is definitely a cute little fellow, alone on that white paper! (I promise not to do that again little fellow.)

Take a peep over on All Dressed Up for so many cute images!

A Joyful Challenge

Today I'm sharing my latest Christmas card for my 2022 stash.  My image is Pointsettia Snowmen from Di's Digital Stamps.

I started out with several images when I read the weekend challenge from Christian Card Makers.  It was this beautiful, rich color spread of five colors and yummy berries. But I quickly found that with no light color selection, everything just 'blobbed' togethers.

I was thrilled to come across the snowmen and was able to make the color selection work. I used Copic markers and for the color selection I used BV29, BV04, R59, R39, R29.

Next, I've been wanting to post in the Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers site, so I grabbed the sketch for August and spent the next 40 minutes searching for paper!  I'm sure you've had those days too - red is hard to match and in this case the purple has a lot of blue in it, making it a bit of a challenge also.

Here's the sketch for August from BYSHC...

I used Gina Marie Designs Stitched Circle dies for cutting the image and her Drop Pendant dies for the 'ribbon/paper' strips.

After layering and securing as shown in the sketch, I added the sentiment 'Joy' on the left ribbon and the tiny mitten charm at the bottom right corner.  Ta-Da...one more for my Christmas stash.

Autumn Treats

Today the Polkadoodles Design Team members are bringing you a few Autumn themed cards and inspirational ideas for fall and Halloween.

For my card, I've selected Winnie Wednesday Pumpkin as my main image and have added several others to build this fall scene.

Winnie and her pumpkin are my first layer, so I just moved them over to the left and sized her about 3" tall.  Next I pulled in the "basket of apples"  and the background 'tree' from the Autumn/Fall Digi Mono Stamp set.  Both of these added to the Winnie image to set up this Fall scene.

I colored all the elements with Copic markers, which are listed below.  For the green and red matting, I used paper from Polkadoodles the Colour of Spring paper pack  (discontinued).

Next I printed several of the tags from the Polkadoodles Winnie Wednesday Halloween Trick or Treat Sentiment pack after reducing them to about 1" square and adding a 'post' to them.   I trimmed them out and added them randomly around the grassy areas of the card design.

Lastly I added the orange variegated twine at the card fold and knotted at the top right adding a small spider web charm to complete the card design.

Gnome Halloween Party!

We're having a Gnome Halloween Party and you're invited!

You've got to see the new release at Polkadoodles ~ Halloween Gnomes.  There are 18 gnome characters in this collection!  I've pulled several of my favorites to make this 9" x 4" slimline card to share with you.

I sized each of the images to about 3" tall, making room also for the circle sentiment, 'Happy Halloween Party' from the Winnie Wednesday Halloween Trick or Treat package. Each of the gnomes are colored with Copic markers. After completing the gnomes, I free-handed the hills in and also colored them with Copic markers.    Then I used Distressed Oxides (Wilted Violet and Picked Raspberry) and a cloud stencil to add in the cloudy background. I used a slimline cloud die to get the pretty cloudlike cut around the top and side of the card.

For the base, I folded the 8 1/2" x 11 cardstock in half lengthwise.  Measuring just the length of the grassy area,  I cut about 3/4" off the end of this card base. Then I secured the completed image to the front of the card base, lining up with the grassy area,   Lastly I added little bits of Clear Wink of Stella throughout the design to add a little sparkle.

Although the card is quite large, this was a really fun one to color and put together.  Be sure you check out the new release at Polkadoodles

Off to a New Adventure!

Happy Friday from the Colour Crazy Challenge Design Team and our sponsor this week, Twinkle Lane Designs!  I hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer.

Although it feels like summer just arrived, fall is coming fast! With that thought in mind, I decided to make a card of encouragement especially designed for kids headed off to college, or someone moving to a new city or maybe a new job.

I've used Twinkle Lane's New Car Digi Stamp along with a standard city background image.

After printing and coloring the car with my Copic markers, I fussy cut it out and set it to the side. I printed and colored the background building, sized to about 4" x 5".  I used Pink & Main's Stitched Rectangle Die for this part.

The card base is 5" x 6" and cut from brown cardstock.  Next I added the plaid matting, cutting it 1/8" smaller than the card base.   I  secured the card to the background piece, just leaving enough at the bottom to make the shadow lines. For this card, I wanted as much depth as possible. An extra way to achieve a little more is to add foam dots at the top of the image and then glue the base down.  You really can't tell that I did that in the front facing photo, but if you'd never tried that you might want to.

Next I took the image piece to my Misti and stamped the sentiment 'You Got This!' with VersaFine black ink.  Because the car is raised (another layer), you'll find when you stamp you will sometimes get a 'white space' right at the edge where the top piece meets the bottom.  Simply take a black markers and fill in this slight open space to complete the letters. Then it's ready to be secured to the card base to complete the design. With the card base being brown, I did go back and add the white cardstock journal box on the inside for a clean writing area.

Be sure to check out all the Design Team images on the Colour Crazy Challenge Blog and add yours in too.

Sweet Song Bird

Today I'm showcasing one of the birds in the set of 'Song Birds' from Sweet 'n Sassy stamps.  I made this card for one of my best friends for her birthday.

After stamping, I colored the image with my Copic markers.  I used Gina Marie's Petite Looped Lace Oval die to get the pretty border on the completed bird.

I used a 5" square card base and covered it with the stripped paper, then added the Happy Birthday sentiment box at the bottom right corner.  Next I secured the image allowing it to overlap slightly for balance.  Lastly I added the organza bow at the fold.

Angels are Near

Today I'm sharing two Sympathy cards I recently made.  Although never fun to make when things are so sad, but they are so meaningful to those receiving them.

This one I made first after finding the 'Angels Are Near' die that a special friend had added to my stamp order.  I was so saddened when I went to message her my thanks, to find her husband had passed just days before.  What a way to lead me to know she needed a card full of love!

The second one, below, I created this past weekend for another dear friend who lost her support dog of over ten years. She too needed to know how much she is loved during this difficult time.

This image is from a google search for Cardinals.  I do not know the manufacture for the words as it was gifted.

The flowers and cardinal are colored with Copic markers and the words are die cut out of red cardstock.  Both cards have a 1/8" black liner before mounting on different pink patterned papers, and then on 4" x 6" card bases.

A New Technique

Today I'm sharing a card I made over the weekend using a new technique for me.

I read a great tutorial from Beccy's Place on coloring white on a dark paper, and knew this was something I wanted to try out.  Here's the link to her blog article.
https://beccysplace.blogspot.com/2022/08/tutorial-white-on-blue.html

For this project I selected Simon Says Stamps, Bouquet of Thanks.

My first attempt I used a "Koh-i-noor Hardymuth' white chalk pencil from Hobby Lobby.  The lead was too soft and about impossible to have any difference between light and dark shades.  That sample went in the trash...

Then I tried 'Spectrum Noir" 002 white pencil, which was a firmer lead and much easier to control.  I hesitated to share my completed first attempt ~ when you look how wonderful Beccy's look in her article.  But as I've encouraged you before, documenting your progress is part of your growth.

This isn't bad, I just hope to improve in using this technique.

I rarely use my white pigment ink pad, so 'ugh' when the inking isn't even.

As you can see I added a scalloped peach mat and a marbleized matting paper to the image, then mounted on a gray card base to complete the card design.

Make a Wish Upon a Star

Today I'm sharing one of the Stamping Bella babies from the 'Bundle Girls in the Sky' stamp set.

I just love how she's sitting on the star, like it's her first time to sit up, but so intent on what's before her.

After stamping her on Neenah 110# cardstock, I used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used a stencil that I'd made with some border dies to make the clouds along with pale lavender chalking ink and a makeup brush.

I used a 6" yellow card base for this design. The border die is the Heart Frame Square by Tessler Crafts, overlaid on the burgundy plaid matting.   Then the image is die cut with the same set, using the insert die which gives it the stitched edge.  Then I simply secured all the layers to complete this card.
