Happy Birthday Country Girl

Although it's the afternoon of January 31, here in the USA, it's already February 1st across the pond.  I'm here with the Design Team from the Classic Challenge Blog as we open the February edition.  Be sure and check to see if you were a winner in January.

Our February sponsor is All Dressed Up Digital Stamps and I've selected Country Girl for my Design Team Card.

Isn't she the cutest with her floppy hat and yellow flowers!

To make today's card, I sized the image to just under 3" tall and added my Happy Birthday sentiment to the right of her.

After printing, I used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used Gina Marie Designs Nested Scalloped Stitched Rectangles die for the decorative edge on the completed image.

I selected the yellow patterned paper and the coordinating blue card stock 2" strip.  After securing each to the A2 card base, I added the Country Girl image.  I tied the blue metallic string around the top and made a small bow.

While I thought I was finished, I wasn't pleased with all the 'white space' above the 'Happy Birthday'.  So I grabbed the scrap strips off the printer table and added a fish tale cut to the ends, then trimmed to properly fit in the open area.  When satisfied with my arrangement of the little tags, then I secured them to the card. Much better!

Flowers for a Special Lady

Good Monday Morning!

For today's card I'm sharing the Happy Birthday wishes I sent to Sabrina!  (aka 'Cousin Sabrina' to my husband)

The January Flower is the Carnation which is a symbol of devotion, love and loyalty.  This flower is the only flower that continues to thrive from summer right into winter.

I selected the image from a free online coloring page and sized it to fit my card front.  Then I added the Happy Birthday greetings before printing.

The flowers are colored with Copic Markers R81, R83, R85 and for the stems I used G40, G43, G46.

The decorative edging was done by using Gina Marie Designs Label Six Rectangles.

Born to be Wild

Although most card makers will agree, 'Masculine cards are usually hard to make', it's a lot of fun when you find an image that is 'ugly cute', right?

Beccy's Place has certainly provided amazing images for this type cards with her 'Funny Farm' package (from my stash).

Meet Clarice ~ I just get tickled every time I look at her!  She was absolutely perfect for my favorite nephew's birthday card.   We're celebrating long distance to AZ today for just that occasion.

I enjoyed her so much, that I made another several days later for another family member's birthday.  I know that both these guys got a little laugh when these arrived.

Whether your guy is turning 38 or 79, or anywhere in between... check out Beccy's Place for other great image.

Paper Weaving ~ Valentine Wishes

Valentine cards are such fun to make and today's Polkadoodles challenge for the design team is to add paper weaving.

I've selected the True Love image along with the Heart Flourish Die

After Copic coloring the image I fussy cut as close to the image as I could but also left an area at the bottom for 'grounding' the image.

For my 'paper ribbon weaving' down the left side, I used a solid mint green and a striped patterned sheet from the Fresh Twist paper pack. I also used the mint green for the 6" square card front.  I used a deep red cardstock for the Heart Flourish die and positioned it as close to the top right as possible. then I secured the couple in front of the heart die.   For the sentiment,  I cut apart one of the prints from the Love  Always Sentiment set.  Lastly I added the coordinating red organza bow.

Happy Valentine Wishes to you!

Thank you for stopping by today to view my blog.  Don't forget to check out all of the Design Team's cards on the Polkadoodles Challenge Blog and enter your cards too!

More Each Day

It's always fun to make a Valentine card using an image that isn't in a Valentine set.  My card today is just that.  This cute little bunny is from Whimsy Stamps Baby Animals by artist Crissy Armstrong.

I stamped the image on a small piece of Neenah 110# cardstock and used my Copic markers for coloring him.   Then I carefully cut out close to the lines and set him aside.

The background is also a 'new' die - one I've had at least a year but never have used.  It's from Kat Scrappiness and is named 'Stitched Heart Tag Die Set'.  This is the larger of the two dies set package.

I added the light pink patterned paper to the front of the card base, than added the large heart die using the red X-O paper.  Then I placed the card base in my Misti and stamped the sentiment using Versa Claire Black ink.  Lastly I added the bunny near the bottom right of the card to complete my design.

By Love Serve One Another

This year I'm starting another Bible Verse Journal along with my friends on Christian Card Makers.  We did this project back in 2016 and it was so gratifying.  Each Monday a scripture for the week is posted and we are to complete an image relative to the scripture and then journal a little about what the scripture means to us or what our feelings are concerning it.

For my cover, I selected an image from last year's calendar from Friendly Inspirations.  It of course was larger than my journal so I scanned it, removed the color and reduced it to fit the front cover.  The coloring was done using my Copic markers; I added the blue matting before securing to the book.

Today I'm sharing the scripture for the week of January 9th, You Are the Light of the World, Matthew 5:14.

I've used an image from Beccy's Place, Lamp and Quill.  This was a freebie from her June 2022 newsletter and worked perfectly for this scripture.

After enlarging to fit my journal, I printed the image on Neenah 110# cardstock and used Copic markers for coloring.  The beautiful edge 'stitching' was achieved using Penny Black's  Elegant Stitching die set.   I added the burgundy matting and secured in my journal.

I hope that I will stay focused on this project throughout the year.  I'll be sharing more of my pages also.

Tall Valentine Wishes

Today I'm sharing one of my favorite animals ~ I do love giraffes.

I've used the Giraffe from Sweet n' Sassy's, Stand Tall set.

After stamping and coloring the giraffe, I fussy cut her out and set it aside.

I wanted to use a new die from Poppy Stamps called Heartscape Hill.   To my surprise, when I opened the die, it's only about 3" wide (not the width of the card, like I thought). so I die cut it using the red polka dot paper and proceeded with the center panel.  I used a stitched wavy edge die to make the rolling hills and secured them to the panel.  The sentiment is from the same stamp package and I used a Gina Marie Designs Drop Pendant die to get the shape and stitched edge.

At this point, I could have stopped and used the panel as a bookmark or tag.  However I decided to continue, taking the scraps of red and adding the vertical strips on the outside of the A2 card base.  Then I secured the completed panel onto the center of the card to complete the design.

When Things Are Hard

This past weekend one of my girlfriends and I attended a crafting retreat in Virginia on Lake Gaston.  The entire trip was awesome to say the least.  In addition to lots of great food and a few extra pounds here and there, I was able to make just under 50 new cards!  It's such a joy to finally have time to ink up some of the stamps I've purchased.  I hope you'll enjoy me sharing these as much as I enjoyed making them.

For today, I'm sharing 'Cactus Quotes' by Paper Rose.

This was a little set with just the cactus and several sentiments.  This sentiment was my favorite, it's very powerful.

To make this design, I stamped the set on Neenah 110# cardstock and used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used Gina Marie Designs Stitched Scallop Rectangle for the decorative edges on the image and the gray matting.  After securing all the layers on the card base, I added the three black enamel dots to complete the design.

Today I'm sharing a beautiful image from Sheepski Designs named Wild Rose Heart. This is one of the images I selected from winning the blog challenge at Lil Crafty Friends.

It was a fun image to color with my Copic markers.  I used the Tattered Lace Beaded Chain Nesting Rectangle die for the edge of the completed image.  Then I stamped 'love of my life' from Simon Says Stamps, Love Always set.  Next I added the burgundy matting and used a standard A2 card base.

Sail On

Today I'm sharing a sympathy card I made using Unity Stamp's Sail With No Limits, by designer Jeanie Hayes.  I love the versatility of this stamp and I've used it for several different occasions.

After stamping the image, I used Copic markers for coloring. On this one I decided I didn't want the sentiment to cover any of the image so I cut it the same width as the trimmed image  to add at the bottom of the card design.

Using a Kraft A2 card base, I cut the navy mat 1/8" smaller than the card front.  After securing the image towards the top of the card, I trimmed the height of the sentiment to fit in the remaining space.  To give our eyes a visual break, I added a strip of very narrow Washi Tape between the image and sentiment. This is truly a card you could make ahead and add the sentiment strip to match your need.

A Wintery Hello

Today I'm sharing an image from Beccy's Place in a wintery greeting card.  I made this card for a January card swap, Use a Snowman".

This image was a December freebie from Beccy and it's called Snowman with Bauble.  Since I didn't get to use this cutie for Christmas I added the 'Hello' sentiment over the bauble image before printing.

I had decided to make a bookmarker with the snowman as I was designing, so when I printed it, it was almost 6" long.  It just didn't look like what I had envisioned so I switched to making a card.

I also wanted to use the new Momenta Snowflake Edger die that I was gifted at Christmas.   Finding a strip of vellum near the die machine, I decided to try that and it cut beautifully.

Using my Copic markers I colored the hat, scarf and buttons using B24, B23, B21 and then matched up the blue cardstock for the background.  The blue was perfect to show off the vellum and coordinated well with the Copic coloring but....  the die is for A2 sized cards so it was about and inch too short!

Not to fret, an easy fix... add a couple of snowy drifts.  I used a stitched wavy line die and cut several so I'd have the right curves to nestle the sweet snowman in.  As you can see, I also added a little color to the edge of the snow using Copics B63 and B60.

After laying everything out on my work space, I measured the size I needed for the base and then cut a heavyweight white cardstock piece to fit.  After securing each layer, I added Stickles 'Diamond' to the hat brim and ball to complete the card image.
