Perfect Harmony

Today I'd like to share this week's image from my Scripture Journal that I continue to work on each week.  We were given Colossians 3:14 this week to depict in some form of art into our journals.

For mine, I selected the beautiful 'Sweet Pea' that was the May Freebie if you are a subscriber to Beccy's Place Challenge Blog.

I sized the flower to about 4' tall and layered a calligraphy image of the scripture next to it.  It's printed on 110# Neenah cardstock and then Copic colored.

I used the Sizzix Framelits Hearts for the decorative edge.  With my journal only being just under 5" wide,  I turned the heart to get the entire image and leave enough space to add the heart patterned paper for the background.

I trimmed the background paper to 4 3/4" square and secured the image close to the top, then added the cross washi tape across the bottom edge. Then of course I added the completed piece to my journal book and to the online album in our group.

A Sunflower Birthday!

Today I'm sharing the birthday card I recently made for my friend Joan's birthday.  I admire her card making daily as she posts her creations, which of course makes it even harder to decide on a card worthy of sending to her.

I decided on using a new Embossing folder, knowing she loves Altenew and embossing folders.  I selected the Altenew, Sunflower Bundle Embossing Folder turning it 'sideways', putting the flowers across the bottom of the image.

There are so many ways to proceed with this folder design.  I most comfortable Copic coloring, which is how I proceeded.

I used the Pink & Main, Stitched Rectangle Dies once the coloring was completed.  I selected a green patterned paper for the background and the kraft 5" square top fold card base.   After securing the background paper, I added the sunflower image just slightly down from the top, leaving about 1" from the bottom.  Lastly I added the brown burlap trim across the bottom of the image and the Happy Birthday tag at the top.

Happy Birthday Joan!

Friends Like You Make Life Better

This afternoon I'd like to share my latest Design Team card using All Dressed Up, Water Lily  .  She's such a cute little butterfly girl that could be used on just about any type card.

To make this card, I sized the image to about 3 1/2" tall and printed her on 110# Neenah cardstock.  I used Copic markers for all of the coloring and have referenced them below.

I selected the solid aqua blue for the matting and the purple dotted swiss patterned paper for the background.  I used the Jillian Vance Stitch Dot Emerald Backdrop die for the image and the mat.

I used a 5" square top fold card base and trimmed the purple paper 1/4" smaller to fit the card front.  Then I secured the background paper, matting and image as shown.  I added the sentiment strip 'Friends like you make life better' under the image and completed the design with the organza ribbon and bow at the fold.

Holy Smoke!!!

Today we're celebrating my son-in-law's

Big 4-0!!!

Brandon is also a faithful volunteer fireman, so the  Stamping Bella, Gnome Firefighter was a great image for his card!

I started by stamping the image and using Copic markers for the coloring.   Then I fussy cut around the top edge of the image.  For the background I used the Stampin' Up, Into the Clouds embossing folder and gray cardstock.

I secured the cloud piece to the top fold A2 card base and then added the completed image .  Then I added the solid green strip across the bottom under the grass.  The "Holy Smoke!!!" sentiment was computer generated then die cut with a fish tail die.  I secured the tag across the bottom of the card to complete the design.

Inside his card ~

Happy Birthday Brandon!

A Savior is Born

Today's Christmas card was made to meet two different challenges.

First, for my entry in the monthly sketch challenge on the  Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmaker site.

This is the sketch (#45) we were given.

The supplies that I used came from an Envelope Challenge from the Addicted to Card Making 2.0 site.  Our hostess sent these supplies for each participant to make a card.  The challenge rules are you must use part of everything included and you may add one item - the image and card base are considered 'free adds'.

For this entry I added the string ribbon on the card which completed using parts of all the supplies included.  (Red is on the other side of the beige paper.)

I used Copics for coloring the image and used Gina Marie Designs Drop Pendant Stitched die for the image and red patterned paper.  The side fold card base is a standard A2 size.

It was fun to take the supplies provided and try to come up with an image that would work for both challenges and still be a useful card.  If you're like me, no time for making cards that can't be used!

Flowers & Leaves

Today I'm sharing the results of my first attempt at Black Out Embossing Technique.  I seriously almost threw the panel in the trash thinking I had to have done something wrong. There is a lot of black on the flower petals!

But as I looked at other examples, I realized that was the way this works.  The  pattern of the 3D folder makes a difference. Some will not have as much ink on the flower as others, but that doesn't make it wrong.

For this project, I had used Altenew's Flowers and Leaves 3D 6" Embossing Folder.

Here's the final two cards, as I cut the piece into two panels and each made a mini slimline card.

As you can see I used various Distressed oxides on the flowers.  Then I used a very full and juicy Versa Fine Clair ink pad and keeping it flat, pulled over the entire image to fill in all the void spaces.  After it had dried, I cut the panels apart, added the coordinating matting, ribbon and sentiment and mounted on blue cardstock card bases.  I added the pearls to the flower cent on the left and then added the dragonflies to both cards.

And also wishing my friend Janice a very Happy Birthday today with the card on the left.

Be Kind

One of the sites I follow has a 'Bee Kind' challenge running this week.  I just happened to receive this image as a prize from a Blog Challenge today and thought isn't that great timing!

The image is from The Paper Shelter and she is called The Queen Bee.

I layered the image file on the digital paper that is included in the package. That's another plus for The Paper Shelter as they always include coordinating paper with their images.   On another layer I added the scripture from Ephesians 4:32, 'be kind to one another'.  All of the coloring was done with Copics, which are referenced below.

I was lucky enough to find coordinating paper for the matting that was almost identical to the digital ribbon on the image.  After securing the matting to the 5 1/2" top fold card base, I added the completed image.  Then I added the silk flowers around the edge as shown to complete the card design.

A Cuddle....

I'm back this afternoon to post with the All Dressed Up Digital Design Team as we open the May Challenge.  For my Design Team card, I've selected , A Cuddle Makes It All Better.

Like all ADU images, she was such fun to color with my Copics. I used the Elegant Stitching Rectangle dies from Penny Black to get the decorative edge and then added the 1/4" burgundy matting.

After selecting the deep aqua polka dotted and the heart patterned papers I couldn't decide which to use for the background - so I decided on this layout to incorporate both!  I added the solid deeper shade of orange and matted each piece with the burgundy for consistency.

I used a 5 3/4" square card base and secured the layers as shown in the photo.  After adding the yellow fabric flower, I found the aqua button and threaded a thin strip of burgundy paper as the 'thread' before attaching to the center of the flower.  Lastly I completed the card design with the yellow organza ribbon and bow at the top fold.

I hope you will join us on the All Dressed Up Challenge for May and also visit the Facebook group to see other design team inspirational cards.

Trust and Determination

Today I'm posting with the Classic Design Challenge as we open the May Challenge.  This month we have two wonderful sponsors ~ Sheepski Designs and Hetty Clare Art.

For my Design Team project I've used Sheepski Designs 'Determination' to make this masculine card.

After sizing the image, I used Copic markers for coloring.   I selected the coordinating orange cardstock for the background and blue cardstock for the sentiment.

For the decorative edge, I used the Sizzix Rectangle Dotted die set for the image and the matting and the 'trust' die is from Maya Road.  I used a standard A2 card base and secured the layers as shown, then added the sentiment at the bottom corner.  Lastly I added the brown twine wrap at the fold with the loopy bow.

I hope you'll join us on the Classic Design Challenge as well as check our sponsors this month at Hetty Clare Art and Sheepski Designs

Tulips for You

Today I'd like to share this lovely image from Altenew

These 'Cartoon Tulips' are actually available in their Freebie section!

The complete layering stamp and die set can be purchased here.

But for me, I enjoy Copic coloring and not layer stamping so I very much appreciated this beautiful image of tulips to color.   After completing the coloring I used Penny Black Elegant Stitching for the decorative edge. Then I added the darker cardstock mat that coordinated with the coral flower.

On the card base I added the peach patterned mat, then secured colored image at an angle on the card base.  I added the stamped sentiment near the top right and then finished the design with the yellow organza ribbon and bow at the top fold.

Anyone Can Be Cool

Today I'm sending out special Happy Birthday wishes to one of my special girlfriends who has been through many of life's situations with me since my early working career.

The image of the stacked cups reminded me of how life sometimes gives us wobbly situations and yet how strong friendships can hold us all together.

After printing the image I used Copic markers for the coloring.  Then I selected the floral background paper and used Gina Marie Designs Label Three for the decorative edges.

With the way the image ended (incomplete saucer), I cut across the image and mat. I added the alternate strip of lavender cardstock and the pink ribbon to give the image a table top look.   Then all the layers were secured to the navy card base.

I stamped the sentiment from My Favorite Things, Friends Like Us and die cut it with the same Gina Marie set. I added a layer of foam behind the sentiment and secured it to the card front to complete the design.

Hopefully the card made it through the mail to my girlfriend in time for her special day today!

Happy Birthday Rhonda!
