Be Happy

I'm back this afternoon with the All Dressed Up Design Team as we share more inspiration with our designs.

For my project I've selected Busy Little Bee.

For this design I flipped the image horizontally prior to printing, then colored her using my Copic markers.  I die cut the completed image using Gina Marie's Drop Pendant die.  I used one of the Stitched Scalloped Basic Edge dies from My Favorite Things to trim the patterned paper on the left side.  Once I'd spaced those two pieces out then I measured and cut the yellow 'honeycomb' background piece and the black matting piece and assembled those as shown.  I secured all the layers to a caramel card base, then added the black twine at the fold and covered the knot with a handmade waxed seal bee.  Lastly I die cut the word 'happy' in both yellow and black and offset them as I glued them near the center of the card to complete my design.

Ice Cream Fun

The Polkadoodles Design Team Challenge this week was to make a shaped card with the theme 'Stay Cool/Beat the Heat'.

For my card, I've selected 'Milkshake Drink Rebel' with the Beach Kiosk background shaped card.

I started with the two separate images, and Copic colored both.  Then I fussy cut out BOTH pieces and carefully re-drew the black line back around the edges of each so that no white was showing. Each layer was then secured to the fun background paper from the digital package Winnie Starfish and Sandcastles Papers 6.  I added Diamond Stickles to the milkshake and all the ice creams, and Glossy Accents to her Sunglasses. Lastly, the 'Fun' die cut was added across the bottom corner to complete the card.

I love the fun shaped that this project turned out to be!

Flowers For Your Special Day!

July seems to be a busy birthday month as my calendar is full of many special girlfriends. Today I'm sharing one I did for a special lady using Wild Daisies from Picket Fence.

While this is a large rubber stamp, I actually stamped it, scanned it and cropped it to use as a digital image.   This allowed me to get most of the flowers on the A2 size card front.  I used Copic markers for coloring and then used the Penny Black, Elegant Stitching dies for the edge on the image and the mat.

I used a Happy Birthday washi tape across the bottom of the image, folding under the edges, then secured the image to the mat ~ and the mat to the A2 sized card base.  Lastly I added the three random enamel dots to complete the card.

Sharing Craft Time

Not every crafter has the luxury or gift of time to craft with their child.... especially your adult children.  The older my daughter Kimberly gets the more we seem to enjoy our crafting time together and we work to schedule those days.

We live just over an hour apart, so it's not like we can just run across town, or up the road ~ it's an effort and takes planning. We've done a little traveling to craft and of course attend two weekend retreats together locally.

This past Christmas we gifted her about half of the set of Copic markers, which caught her totally off guard. We've already enjoyed many days with the beginning skills of Copic coloring.

But today I'm sharing a quick colored pencil piece we both did earlier this week for the Facebook site, Adult Coloring Challenge.  This week's free image from Celeste Mayer included a horse which I knew would be right up Kimberly's alley!  When they came up for the 4th I had two prints ready for us to color together.  It was her first entry for the coloring site.

Here's mine and then hers.

We colored these with a combination of Prisma and Brutfuner Colored pencils ~ in memory of her Appaloosa pony Sally.  Mine does look different because I used Gamsol and blending stumps after completing the coloring.

Cherish the times with friends and family.  I'm looking forward to the next crafting time with my daughter!

Sweet Dreams ~ Hugs & Kisses

Today I'd like to share another Mariola Budek image with you.  This one is named 'Sweet Dreams' and just makes you want to pick him up and snuggle with him!  Such a soft and gentle expression with his rosy cheeks!
.

I started by sizing this one to just over 3" square and used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used Sizzix Dotted Square die for the decorative edge.  Next I selected two shades of blue that coordinated with the image and cut the mats to fit the image to an A2 size card base.  After stamping Hugs & kisses on a scrap of cardstock, I used a fishtail tag to shape it, then secured it across the bottom corner of the card.

Life is Full of Beauty

Today I'm sharing another 3D Textured Embossing Folder card that I recently made.  For this one I used Nellie Snelling's Fuchsia design which is a 6" folder.

The versatility of these folders is endless!  From leaving them exactly as they come out of the die cutting machine to painting, coloring, inking, to so  many other techniques... if you haven't tried them, you really should!

For today's card, I wanted to do a monochromatic flower and wanted it to be bold!  I selected my background sheet first with shades of pink to magenta then selected several Copics that coordinated with the  paper.

I tend to color 'heavy handed' so I focused on coloring as lightly as possible throughout the design. When completed, I used the Tattered Lace Lacy Days die set to cut the edges of the image and the matting.  I used a 5.5" card base and secured each layer to the base.  I added the preprinted sentiment to the right of the image and completed the card design with the green organza bow at the fold.

Holly Wreath Sketch Challenge

My favorite time of the year - Christmas!

And each November I promise myself that I will do better working on Christmas cards during the year. Are you in that club with me?

Here it is the start of July and I think this is my third card for 2023!  What a shame!

But I'll attempt to pick it up and hopefully do a little better in the next few months.

Today I'm sharing a beautiful Christmas image from Jan's Digital Stamp Shop.  This new image for July is part of her  'Christmas 1926' package.  I've assembled it in a sketch challenge layout from Build Your Stash Holiday Cardmakers.

After sizing to just over 3", I printed the image on 110# Neenah card stock and used my Copic markers for the coloring.  I used Pink and Main's Stitched Square die for the image and the burgundy matting.

The card base is 5 1/2" square and I covered it with a green patterned paper with gold metallic dots.  Using the sketch below, I assembled the layers of the card design.

One more to add to the small pile of Christmas cards for 2023... and lots more to go!

Saved by Grace Through Faith

This afternoon we are opening Morgan's ArtWorld for the July Challenge. I've selected her beautiful Flower 1 for my project card.

I started by enlarging the flower to just under 4" tall so that I could shade each petal with my Copic markers. I used three shades of magenta to give the rose a beautiful rich tone yet kept it light with the Copic G000 shading around the image.

I used Penny Black's Grateful Stackers die set for the light and dark green mattings and also for the decorative edge on the completed rose.

The card base is 6" square covered with pink dotted swiss paper.  Then I secured the two layers of green matting, followed by the image. I secured the stamped sentiment 'Saved by grace through faith' near the left corner and then tied an organza ribbon and bow at the top fold to complete the card design.

Spread Sunshine

This week the Polkadoodles Design Team's challenge was to use a bright sunny color palette with a 'sun' in our designs.

Here's my completed card ~

I selected Rebel Bookwork for my card and added one of the sun designs from the Zodiac Horoscope package.

This was our color palette:

After coloring her with Copic markers, I added several layers of matting to the image, mounted them on a 5" card base, and finished it with the organza bow at the top fold.  She and this little bird are ready to 'Spread Sunshine' wherever they go!

Be sure to check out all the Design Team cards on the Polkadoodles Challenge Blog.

Hello Lovely Lady!

Welcome to the Classic Design Challenge for July.  Our sponsor for the month is Fred She Said and I have selected their lovely Hibiscus for my inspirational card today.

I made the single image a large 4" flower, colored with three shades of lavender Copic markers and three shades of green  I added gold metallic gel men in the center for the stamen and then die cut the edge using Tattered Lace Lacy Days Square.  I also used this die for the background  matting.

For this card I used a 5 1/2" card base and secured the green patterned paper layer.  I rotated the completed hibiscus image to the right, keeping all the corners on the card base and secured it,  Lastly I added the gold 'hello' embellishment sentiment at the bottom center to complete the card.
