You're Just the Best!

Today our Polkadoodles Design Team cards are focused on Mother's Day with a sketch that was provided for us to use.

Here's my completed card using Honeypie Doggy Tails, then a few things about how I made it.

Here's the sketch for our challenge ~ and we were allowed to rotate the circles if we desired.

Sketch challenges are NOT my cup of tea, so this one I did ponder on for a bit.  I decided on the Honeypie image and a shaker card, but then with two circles?  Might be a little different I thought, but only one way to figure it out - dig in.

I started by sizing my circles to fit the 5 1/2" square card, then made the 'ring frames' so that I was sure how much space that part would take up. Then I was able to size the image to be just over the size of one of the circles.  Before coloring her I pulled out my stash of Polkadoodles papers and decided on the plaid piece from the Vintage Candy Craft pack.  Then it was easy to color my image to match the paper.  When completed, I fussy cut around her and set her to the side while I assembled the shaker part of the card.

While I used to make all my shakers with foam tape, once my friend Debra showed a group of us the technique using an acetate envelope, I rarely do a shaker any other way.  If you're not familiar with that method, just look on Pinterest or YouTube and you'll find lots of help on that part.

I found an envelope that would fit the long thin space I needed behind the double circles, and decided on the tiny multi colored hearts.  The only dilemma was I wanted part of the shaker contents to stay in the top circle at all times too.  To make this happen I took a strip of 1/4" foam tape and put it horizontally inside the acetate envelope (making sure I had shaker hearts on both sides first). Then when I tightly sealed the envelope it was like two separate tiny envelopes.  I'm sure there were lots of other ways to do this  - but this worked great for my card.  Next I secured it to the back of the plaid cover paper, then added it to the front of the card base.  I added the two rings around the windows, then the Honeypie girl and the sentiment from Polkadoodles Sentimental package.  I typed the Happy Mother's Day sentiment and after die cutting it, secured it near the top right corner.  Lastly I added the coordinating green organza bow at the card fold.

Thank you for stopping by today to view my blog.  I enjoy sharing my work with you and invite you to “Follow” my blog and to visit my site ~ “Not Just Scraps” on Facebook ~ where you can purchase my cards.
