Puppy Thanks ~ by Whimsy

Today's card is featuring one of Whimsy Stamps from the 

Lee Holland Collection, called Puppy in Present.

He actually just arrived yesterday at my house, and somehow he made it to the one open spot on the craft table to become a card today!

The layout idea credit goes partially to Linda Levoir, one of Whimsy designers who had a similar layout on Pinterest with the wavy top and the larger flat back 

sprinkled around the image.  

My flat backs are 'home made' using the pony beads.

When Words Just Aren't Enough

Before I share my card today ~ a quick reminder that NEXT WEEK I will be posting daily for Unity Stamp Company's Growing In Unity~2018!

I am SO EXCITED!!!

We have all been in the situation where we just don't know what to say; when someone has been given a bad medical report, or there has been a death in the family, or any number of other heartbreaking issues.  As a Christian, I know there is comfort in hearing "I will pray for you" and when I personally say "I will pray for you", I say it with meaning and commitment. 

The sentiment used on today's card is from Unity's 2017 January Sentiment Kit, May Strength Surround You, by Lisa Arana and the small flowers are 

from Unity's Spring package by Heather Rolin. 

This sentiment says it all ~ 

How blessed we are to be surrounded by friends and family during difficult times.  Even when it is quiet and we are physically alone, we still have our Savior, 

who has promised to never leave us. 

What a comfort to know we can draw strength to face tomorrow

 through the valleys and the trials of life.

Let someone know today that they are not alone...that you are praying 

for them to find the strength to face tomorrow.

Meeting the Random Challenge

One of the fun parts about being on several of the crafting and card making Facebook sites is learning from the beautiful cards that are posted by others and building your own self confidence in posting your own work.  Earlier today while scrolling through the news feed, one of my 'virtual' friends had posted a Random Challenge to make a card using an older stamp ~ no prize, no winner ~ just make a card to send to someone special and share your card.  

What a great challenge since we ALL have stamps that we have not used in a while ... 

and probably some that have never been used

(ssshhh...they are waiting for that special occasion).

Since I was in the middle of putting my Heartfelt Creations stamps into Evernote, I grabbed the one on top and decided that would be the one I'd use for my card today.

I used the Dogwood branch from the Heartfelt Creations Dogwood Chapel.  The border die cut is from the My Favorite Things Scalloped Borders and the sentiment is from Unity stamp kit, May Strength Surround You (which happens to be new).

As you look through your stamps to make your cards - always dig to the back of the box or drawer... those oldies are still goodies!

Change can be a Beautiful Thing

I'm bringing today's card to you as an example of a 

change of layout card.

If you are like me... and look back at the last dozen or so cards you have made... 95% of mine are single, straight fold A2 card base.  If it wasn't for the Christmas season, and doing some extra special ones, that percentage would be higher.  How about yours?

While crafting this past weekend, my table partner was trying to use up some of her scraps and came up with the base design for today's card. Although this isn't something new, sometimes it's good to be reminded of different basic folds to use.  As you will remember, you can vary the measurements to make it a vertical card just as easily.

Here's the card I made using the sentiment from Unity's stamp set Spark designed by Graciellie:

The base card measures 9" by 4" and the fold is at 5 1/2", which gives you a different opening and opportunity to embellish with coordinating papers.

Treat the top panel and the side panel separately when cutting your matted papers and remember to only attach your embellishment to lap over on the left side of the top panel. 

This is a great way to use some of your coordinating scraps and a quick card base design.

It seems to be a cold and gloomy week

with most people having to return to work.

So I thought today's card would be a bright 

Thank You card

with one of my favorite House Mouse images

of Mudpie called Warm Cup.

The copic colored image was die cut using a Gina Marie Stitched Circle die and then a Spellbinder Scalloped edge die for the yellow matting.  I specifically selected bright yellows and green scraps with a yellow loopy bow to brighten up our day.

Document the Special Times through Ornaments

Before Christmas gets too far behind us,

I wanted to share one special ornament that I made 

for my brother with you.

Mike is very musically inclined and in 2017  he  rekindled his ability to play the saxophone. 

I wanted to honor that  with a special memory ornament 

but wanted something on the funny side.

So I googled for a free image of a saxophone player and was pleasantly surprised to find an image that LOOKED almost like 

MY BROTHER!

After printing to fit in the ornament bulb, I colored two and glued back to back with a clear fishing thread between them.  Then I tightly rolled it up to stuff it into the tiny opening...and there it stuck!  Finally I got a letter opener and was able to push it against the side of the ornament to get it ironed out flat and added the gold and black star glitter and seal the top.    The more I worked on it, with the help of my girlfriend, the more I laughed at how much it looked like him!

It was a fun ornament to make for my little brother.  I'm very proud of his accomplishments.... I guess I'll get him a red bow tie for Christmas next year!

Happy New Year ~ 2018!!!

And what to most of us say after that?.... 

"And isn't it hard to believe how fast time flies?"

Today I am celebrating my second anniversary of my blog, which has been a self fulfilling goal for me and an amazing journey that continues to open doors to new friends and opportunities.

My cup truly runs over with blessings!

With that thought, I wanted today's card to represent the loving support that I continue to receive from my girlfriends; both here at home and virtually through Facebook and the internet.  It is amazing the relationships that have been built as the Lord has allowed our life's paths to cross. I am truly GRATEFUL for each of you!  Today's card is for YOU!

The supplies for this card were ~ Unity's Shine Bright Girls, by Angie Blom, and the Gina Marie Designs X-Stitched Rectangle Dies.  The image is Copic colored on 110# Cardstock and the fishtail die is unbranded.  Diamond Stickles were used on the hats and chunky gold starts were added as the finishing touch.

Everyday is Full of Blessings

As 2017 comes to an end tonight, I continue to reflect over the many blessings that have come my way during this past year.  

Not every day has been perfect, or filled with complete joy... 

BUT EVERYDAY has been full of blessings!

I serve an awesome God who never leaves me and always knows what is best for me.  

Today I hope that you can take time to also reflect on your 2017 events and blessings with grateful hearts.

For today's card, I selected Unity's stamp, Bird Chirping Weather and added the sentiment from Unity's KOM, 08/08. I also used Gina Marie Design Double Stitched Hexagon  Dies and Whimsy's Mistletoe leaf die.

Today's posting also completes two years of my blog posting with a total of a total of 313 posting over that time. Wow!  Many thanks to my faithful followers and especially to those who share my links to others to help me grow!  I can't wait to see what God has in store for me in 2018!  It's going to be an awesome year for sure as I continue to serve a Risen Savior!

in my series,
COUNTDOWN  TO CHRISTMAS WITH NOT JUST SCRAPS.
 I have really enjoyed sharing my cards each day with you and appreciate each of your comments and encouraging words.

Today's posting is not a card ~ but is the posting of my traditional Christmas ornament for 2017.  A tradition started many years ago by my mother.  Each year she would make a special ornament for my brother and I so that when we left home and started our adult life, we would have a box of ornaments to start our own Christmas tree.  I continued that tradition for my children and somewhere along the way it expanded to grandchildren and close friends.  My ornament list now is at about 40 each year!  

This year I used one of the ideas from the Whimsy Retreat I attended in October, which was designed by Iris Wiechmann, and modified it slightly to fit my family and friends.  This is the original one I made and submitted for a Unity DIY project with a few directions to follow, then below that you'll see several other photos of the different designs that I also made. 

This window tag/ornament is made using the Whimsy stitched tag die with a small rectangle die taped inside to get the front piece.

Hand cut a rectangle of acetate slightly larger than the window opening and glue to the front.  

Then cut a second die shaped tag out of white craft foam.

The pressure from the die may stretch the foam slightly.  

If it does, when you glue it to the front, line up the inside rectangle and push the excess toward the outside.  You can easily trim off the excess around the outside edge.

Lay this down and put about half a teaspoonful of confetti of your choice in the window.  

Remove the center die and cut one solid tag for the back of the ornament.  
After putting the confetti in the window, apply glue to the foam and then align the back on the tag, putting slight pressure on it for several seconds until the glue can set.

Then you can flip it over and add your ribbon and decoration to the front. Now isn't that the cutest shaker tag/ornament you've seen!

Here are some of the other designs I made for my family and close friends.

And just when I thought I was through... I decided to make 15 more for the ladies in my church Mission group.
