For Where Your Treasure Is...

Today's card I'm sure you will find a little different.  I needed a birthday card for my nephew's bride.  Since it was her first birthday in our family, I wanted to do something special for her.

One of their tattoos is very unique, at least to me.  I decided I wanted to use that in her card design.

Here's the completed card, and then I'll go through how I made it work.

To make this card, I took their photo into Photoshop and used one of the filters to make a photocopy of the color print.

This gave me the black and white image to color in with my Copic markers.  It's a really cool way of using a photo!

I've referenced below the Copic colors that I used.

Her fingernails of course needed lots of sparkle.  For the "Pinkie" finger I added clear Wink of Stella .  The two 'Gold' colored nails are then covered with Platinum Stickles.  For the other 'Red' one, I added Silver Stickles over the design she had on the nail.  Also on her engagement ring, I added the Silver Stickles as well.

For the background I used Penny Blacks, Paper Scroll, which it's hard to see the stitching with the patterned paper.  When you glance below, you can see how the die is stitched like a Treasure Map under the list of Products.  That of course led me to the scripture from Matthew 6:21... perfect for her birthday.

It was easy to measure the space available and generate the scripture in two pieces to fit.  I printed those on the light gray, die cut with a small oval and added them to the card.  I used a light gray cardstock to make the card base to fit about 1/2" bigger than the paper scroll and secured the completed image to the card base.  I also die cut another Paper Scroll out of white cardstock and secured it inside to send my message to her.

Weekend Challenges

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to craft at your house.  I've been super busy getting ready for the Fall Retreat that I host.  Twenty-two ladies will be attending this time for four craft packed days starting Thursday!

But I did make time to check out the Weekend Challenges on the two card groups I'm in.  One was a sketch and the other a masculine Get Well card.

You guessed it - I combined the two again...

And here's the sketch we were to use.

For the image, I used Pink & Main's past freebie, 'Scooting By' and then used a miscellaneous sentiment stamp that said 'feel better soon."

The cute little Volkswagen is colored with Copics and then I hand cut it out.  I cut the yellow and green strips about 3/8" wide and secured them to the red background paper.  After adding the sentiments, I added the car using a wobbler. Next I secured this to the white A2 card base.  To balance the green grass, I added the lime green organza sparkle ribbon at the top with just a simple knot. Although it looked complete, there was one more step.  I added glossy accents to the front windshield and put it aside to dry for several hours.

This was a cute sketch for the challenge and we can always use a get well card!

Isadora ~ Wishing You a Happy Halloween

I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  I'm posting today with the Polkadoodles Design Team.  This week we are sharing Autumn and Halloween inspirational cards.

I've selected Polkadoodles Isadora Witch Halloween.  Here's my completed card and then a few details.

I love the crystal ball in this design - so magical!  My extra large card base is 5 1/2" x 8" and  is covered on the front in a stripped patterned paper from Polkadoodles Fresh Twist Craft Paper

Next,  I added a generic die cut spider web die with a little bit of Platinum Stickles to give it a bit of sparkle.

I colored Isadora with Copic markers and then die cut the completed image using a large stitched oval die.   I secured her in the center of the card to complete my design.

I really liked using the light purple shade (BV0000 and BV00) on the spider web as it tied it in with the crystal ball.

It's hard to see on the larger photo but the touch of gold in the Platinum Stickles on the web really sparkle.

Isadora is part of Polkadoodles Spellbinding Witches series.  They are a different style than a lot of the typical Halloween images.  You really should take a peek at the collection.

Heart of Spring

Happy Friday from The Colour Crazy Challenge and our sponsor this week, Ching-Chou Kuik.

I've selected Heart of Spring for today's card.

Isn't this a beautiful image to work with?  She just speaks soft pastels to me.  I've used Copic markers for my coloring and referenced them below.

I used Spellbinder Labels Eight for the die cut edge and for the variegated matting.  Both are mounted on a standard A2 size card base.  Lastly I added the soft blue organza ribbon with a simple knot near the top.

Precious Lord, Take My Hand

Today I'd like to share with you one of the cards I made for two weekend challenges.  One challenge was 'A Butterfly card with lace' and the other was 'Music for the background'.

Here's what I came up with when I combined the two.

To make this card, I printed the sheet of music that I scanned from one of our music books and sized it down to about 4" x 5".  The olive background paper has gold shaped diamonds which tie in to the embellishments.  Lace isn't something I use often on my cards, but I certainly didn't have any problem finding several pieces in my craft room!  The heart piece was actually a bit stiff which made it perfect for attaching to the music sheet.  I used the Cherry Lynn Tropical Flourish die with a coordinating olive dotted swiss paper for the next layer. The last layer is the gold Ornate Butterfly from Die'sire.  You'll notice the butterfly is only attached at the body, leaving the wings free to stand out.

Let's Go For a Walk

In my card making, I don't think I've ever advertised that I would actually design a card.  I'm usually pretty clear that I'm not an artist, just a colourist.  Yet I get tickled at some of the card requests I get and the challenges I'm presented with.  I have to say, 'Thank goodness for Google!'

But I do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I can design a special card to fit the customer's request or match the recipient to the 'T'.   Again, that all comes from my God, not from me for sure!

Today's card is one of those cards - a simple request, yet I had no idea where I was going to come up with the images to make this card. It seemed like a simple request....

"I need a thank you card for a young girl, who's about 10 years old. She walks our dog (a Weiner dog) so I'd like it to be of her walking our dog."

Zero stamps that fit all of those criteria.  But I did find the dog in a Recollections Dog & Bone Valentine Set.  Then I headed to my digital files to find a young girl that I could make to fit around or behind the dog.

I ended up with Polkadoodles, Flower Fairy Holding a Toadstool Ballon from the Winnie Daisy Fairy image from the Daisy Fairy Collection.  She was facing the wrong way - a simple fix of reversing the image.  And also she was holding a balloon - blocked that out and left the string to connect to the dog as her leash.

And here's the completed project ~

She's colored with Copic markers and the die cut edges are done with Carnation Crafts Pretty Shabby Square Labels. The layers are mounted on a top fold 6" square card base.  The Thank You sentiment was die cut out of scraps and added along with the vertical orange patterned paper strip to complete the card.

Autumn Wishes Fresh From the Farm

Happy Monday from Jan's Digital Stamps Design Team!

I'm super excited to share today's card with you because I know how we love our truck cards.

I'm sharing Jan's new released 'Fresh From the Farm'.

When sizing the truck for printing, I added the sentiment below the truck.  I colored the truck with shades of aqua and made the pumpkins nice and bright for the Autumn inspired card.

After selecting the aqua patterned matting paper and the solid orange image matting, I decided to add a layer of burlap in between.  It's not easy to get the burlap to glue to the paper layers, so I used several extra strong glue dots. Once I had all the layers secured, I added the enamel sunburst circle near the top left of the design.  Looks pretty good doesn't it!

Be sure to visit Jan's Digital Stamp Shop for other great images and also the new blog challenge.  I'd love to see your cards there.

I'm Not Saying You're Old...

Sometimes you need to share a little humor, even when life has you down.  Today I'm sharing a silly little birthday card I made for one of my close friend's birthday yesterday.  Sadly she had just gone through the memorial service for her late husband on Wednesday.

While her sadness will last a while for sure, she needed a bright and cheerful birthday card.

I selected 'Imagine That Digi Stamp's Rocky's Stonemobile and here is the completed card.

I sized the image to about 3 1/2" tall and then typed the sentiment above and below the image.   After printing on Neenah 110# cardstock, I used Copic markers for coloring.

After pulling some bright papers to go with the colored image, I decided on my layout.  I used Whimsy Stamps Zig Zag Rectangles die set on the image and the green vertical strip.

The card base is 6" square and I turned it for a side fold.  I added the bright orange to the base and then the vertical strip and finally the colored image.  To complete the card, I used a variegated thread and looped it at the fold five times.  I knotted it just below the top on the left corner.  I didn't have a dinosaur charm, but I found a pair of elephants and decided they would work.  I used an extra strong glue dot to attach the elephants over the knot and to the card base.

It a Winner ~ Football Tour!

Happy first day of September!

The September Morgan's Artworld Challenge is live this afternoon and her Creative Team have lots of great cards to share with you.  Be sure to check out the new challenge blog to see all the cards, after I share mine with you here.

I've selected a fun image called  'Football Tours' for my project card.

Yes, this one took a while to color with all the details, but it was fun!  I selected the deep red mat which picks up some of the small elements in the image, then added that to a much larger brown card base. This allowed me to add shiny gold 'Horray!', '#1', and 'trophy' die cuts to the edges and "Yeah" on the front of the bus.

Thank You For Your Kindness

The September Crazy Critter Challenge is live now and as part of the Design Team, I've selected Lee Holland's 'Cute Giraffe' to share with you today.

For this card I sized the Cute Giraffe to about 3" tall and shifted him to the left of my card design space.   Then I typed the sentiment on the right - 'Thank You for your kindness'.  After printing on Neenah 110# cardstock, I colored the image with my Copic markers.

I used Gina Marie Designs Nested Scalloped Stitched Rectangle for the decorative edging on the image and also on the plaid matting.  I trimmed a coordinating brown solid cardstock to about 1/8" larger than the image size.

The card base is a standard white A2 size.  I secured the layers as shown, plaid bottom matting, brown attached to the image, then secured to the card base.

This is a great image for lots of occasions like so many of Lee Hollands are. Be sure to check out his listings too!
