The Things Which Are Impossible

Today I'm happy to be sharing my first card as Guest Designer for the month of May for Word Art Wednesday.   

Many of you have heard me rave about this publication and the beautiful scripture that is provided every other Wednesday.  If you are not already following them, now is the perfect time to get signed up. Their Design Team always have such beautiful cards to present and there is a wonderful devotion too.

The selected scripture for today is Luke 18:27 and our sponsor is Lawn Fawn Stamps.

Here's my completed card and then a few details about how I made it.

For this project I've used two Lawn Fawn Stamps.  The bears in the center are from 'Dad & Me' (LF1163) and the other animals are from 'Wild For You' (LF1413).  My background 'Noah's Ark Landed' is a coloring page sized to 5 1/2" square and printed on Neenah 110# cardstock.

I stamped each set of animals and used my Copic markers for coloring.  Then I hand cut out each set right up to the outlines.  After coloring the background and Ark, I started adding the animals.  On each of the animals, the first animal is glued flat and the second animal is glued at the feet - but there is a foam square behind the head. This added dimension really gives the completed card a great effect.  When all the animals were secured, then I added the printed sentiment at the top right corner to complete the card design.

Thinking of You

Today I'm sharing a new stamp set from Sweet & Sassy.

We tried to stop by this store on our way to Florida several weeks ago. We passed within 10 miles of them but we were a good three hours before they were to open. Maybe next time because I'm sure I could find a few things to bring home! 

This card is made using Poppies & Greetings.  

I used Copic markers for coloring the image and the coordinating die to cut the image out.  The background is patterned paper (not stamped) and the die at the top is from Tim Holtz Mixed Media Background set.

Happy Mother's Day

Today I'm sharing the card I made for my daughter in law for Mother's day and also for several weekend challenges.

A friend of mine ordered the Brutus Monroe, Enchanted Roses background stamp and was showing me how pretty it was.  I replied 'I have that stamp too - don't think it's ever seen an ink pad.'

Now I certainly hope that I'm not the only one that has issues like that?  Stamps that have never been used.... Oh my! 

Well I'm working on it.  I immediately pulled the stamp and decided it was my next project. 

This gorgeous stamped image took quite a while to get it all colored.  But it's so worth the time when done. 

I used Copic markers for coloring and because she is a huge Clemson University fan, I selected ORANGE for the main rose.   When completed, I trimmed the edges and then cut a black mat 1/4" larger than the colored image.  

 I stamped the Happy Mother's Day from the Simon Says Stamp, Wake Up Make Up set.  I used a miscellaneous die for the sentiment and then used a ribbon threader punch on each side.  The coordinating orange organza ribbon slipped easily through the sentiment and then I folded and secured it behind the top layer. 

For the card base I cut the golden 12" x 12" cardstock in half to make the 6" square side fold base. Lastly, the layers were simply secured on the card front and the card is ready to be delivered.

Let Your Dreams Blossom

Our Polkadoodles Design Team Challenge for this week is Spring Flowers and boy do we have some beautiful flower cards ready to show you!  You can click HERE to go to the Polkadoodles Craft Challenge blog or if you'd prefer ~ read on to see what I made first.

For my project card I selected Polkadoodles Blooms 1 Flower Bundle and made this 5-1/2" square greeting card.

I enlarged the flower image to about 3 inches tall and used my Copic markers for coloring.  I used the Gina Marie Designs Drop Pendant die for the stitched edging for the image and the sentiment.  Then for something a little different, I added a good bit of my book binding glue to the center of each flower, then added yellow seed beads.  They of course seem to have a mind of their own and don't exactly stay in the lines, but I really liked the effect they gave to this card.   

Once they had dried completely, then I could proceed with the rest of the card. 

Sometimes it seems the best dies are the ones that get discontinued!  Polkadoodles Elegant Flourish Die was one of those.  I die cut two of these out of the light green cardstock from the paper packs and positioned them coming in from opposite sides of the card, overlaying the tags.  They add just the right touch of elegance to the card to complete the design.

Breathe Deeply

Today I'm posting with the Design Team for Colour Crazy Challenge Blog as we are all set for a new week with our sponsor All Dressed Up.  

For my project card, I've selected Dream Catcher and made this cute little card of encouragement.

After enlarging the image to about 3 1/2" tall, I printed it on Neenah 110# cardstock.  I used Copic markers for my coloring and then used Quick Quotes Blue chalking ink and a cloud stencil to make the background.  I added the bold sentiment stamp 'Breathe Deeply', which fit nicely right above the image. 

The decorative edge was done using Penny Black's Elegant Stitching die.  I added the red dotted matting to a standard A2 card base and then secured the completed image to finish the card.

Fruit of the Spirit

I guess the same goes for stamps as with any item - 'One man's trash is another man's treasure'.  

At a resent retreat, this basket of fruit stamp was on the 'swap' table along with others for anyone to take.  It caught my eye so I borrowed it to stamp for a card, then returned it for someone else to use.  I guess it could be considered dated but never too old to go with this scripture.

The stamp is from River City Rubber Works, Fruit, 1998.  Here's what I came up with ~ 

I used Copic markers for the coloring and used the Gina Marie Designs Labels Two for all the die cuts.  

What I'd like to point out on this card is there was just a horizontal line under the fruit - no basket or table.  So as you can see I took a piece of the background plaid and again the Labels Two die and make it look like a tablecloth or bowl holding the fruit.  This trick is also good if you happen to get a nasty ink blob while coloring the bowl or something under your item - look to see if you can turn your dies to cover ~ be creative!

For Everyone's Safety

Recently I was able to purchase the My Favorite Things set 'Festive Old Friends' from one of the Facebook sellers.  Today I'm sharing the first one in the set - they are all just so cute and perfect for 'mature' birthdays.  I hope you'll enjoy each of them too!

 All of the set's are of course interchangeable with the sentiments and the characters.  They make a quick card since you are only coloring the little person.  I don't normally purchase dies for my stamps as fussy cutting is enjoyable to me.  But this was sold with the dies and I have to say they are so true to cut the image ~ it's amazing! Good Job MFT! 

I colored the lady with my Copics and just did a straight cut on the sentiment since it was quite long.  I used all scrap papers to make the card ~ The scrap paper had candles on the border so I trimmed the candles for the bottom and added the rest to the top over the blue scrap background strip.  Since it was a top fold card, I then completed the card with the pink organza bow.

The Aviator

With Father's Day coming before you know it, Jan's Digital Stamp Shop's newest release is sure to be a big hit.

The Aviator has an amazing old truck, man's best friend (both in and out of the truck) and several sentiments. 

Here's what I came up with for my project card:

I reversed my image because I wanted to use the Gina Marie Designs Drop Pendant as if to show 'motion' on the card.  Isn't that a fun thing to do when we're using digital files?

I used Copic markers for coloring this fun image.  After die cutting the image and the 'Happy Father's Day' I added them to a 4" x 6" card base covered in a multi strip paper.    With my card base being a top fold, then I added the blue twine and the tiny clock - perfect for a masculine card. Although you can't see it well in the photo, I added glossy accents to the truck window.  This is a great addition to 'auto' cards, just be sure to do this last and let it dry overnight.

His Mercies Are New Every Morning

Good afternoon from Morgan's ArtWorld's Design Team as we kick off the May Challenge  here in the US and around the world.  To reach her challenge blog and see all the Design Team projects, click HERE.  We will be looking forward to seeing your creations too. 

But first, here's my project using Morgan's Rose Candle Grayscale.

I enlarged the image to about 4" tall and printed on Neenah 110# cardstock.  I used Copic markers for coloring, which are listed below for your reference.  I wanted a pretty lacy edging so I selected the Gina Marie Petite Looped Lace Oval die.    Next, I added the sentiment from Sweet & Sassy, Stamped In His Image, tucked close under the flower pedal, and used Versa Claire ink.

For the card base I used an olive green cardstock that coordinated with the candles and leaves and made the six inch square side fold base.  I looped the matching green organza ribbon around the pink print and knotted to the left side, then secured the print to the card front.  After adding the image to the right of the knot, then I added the organza bow.  For the finishing touch I added the three tiny white pearls.

S-T-R-E-T-C-H Out the Celebration

Here we go with the month of MAY! While that seems crazy as this CRAZY bird card ~ it's MAY!  

And for us here in SC it means we have survived Pollen Season too!  

But we're kicking off the month with the Crazy Critter Challenge blog first thing this Sunday morning.  My card below was made with the Artisan Joggles stamp, The Bird Ernest.  Isn't he a trip!

To make this card, I started with stamping the image to the left side of my Neenah 110# cardstock and then the sentiment to the right. I used Copic markers for coloring and then die cut the image and the mat with Gina Marie Designs Nesting Labels Two.

I covered the A2 sized card base with a stripped foiled paper then added the yellow/orange mat.  I took the darkest blue Copic and ran the color around the edge of the bird colored image to give the appearance of another die layer.  Then I was able to securely add the colored image to the card front permanently.
