My Growing in Unity 2025 Winners!

To Brighten Your Day

Welcome to the first Word Art Wednesday Blog Challenge for April 2025.  I'm posting with the Design Team today as we bring you our project cards using the featured scripture from John 1:29.  Our sponsor for this challenge is Stamp Simply Stamps.  If you are in the market for Christian stamps, do take a moment and check out their website where you'll find everything from stamps and dies to ribbons and tools.

Today I'm using the beautiful sunflower from their Sunflower Season clear stamp set to showcase the selected scripture.

After stamping the image I used Copic markers for the coloring and then matched up the coordinating papers.  I printed the scripture to fit the card design and then used the Gina Marie Designs, Labels Six Die set to cut the completed image, sentiment, and the green mats.  

Next I made the coordinating cinnamon brown card base and added the plaid matting followed by securing the two matted piece, overlapping as shown in the photo.  I added fun foam to the back of the butterfly and secured him on the right side of the flower to complete the card design.

I Stand At The Door ~ GIU Day 5

Growing up in a small town in South Carolina, our church had beautiful stained glass windows.  My favorite one was the one of Jesus knocking at a door. This is the scene and scripture that I wanted to leave you with as I finish up my week of sharing through Growing In Unity with Unity Stamps.   

Today I've used Unity's KOM from June 2020,'Change the World' where I pulled the bricked wall/wooden door stamp. The scripture reference is from Revelations 3:20. 

I stamped the image on Ivory cardstock and went back to my Copic markers.  I wanted to be sure to highlight the coloring shades and depth in this beautifully detailed image.  After coloring, I tore the edges to where the image and coloring stopped and ensured it would fit in the margin space of my Bible page.   

But before placing it in the Bible, I used a sharp blade and cut the three sides of the door so it could open.  I added a small piece of woodgrain paper to the inside of the door piece and inked the edges black.  Then I secured the completed image onto my Bible page.    I used the sentiment from the Phyllis Harris 'No Limit to Love' with 'Warm Breeze' Versa Fine Clair ink and stamped the 'I Believe' stamp at an angle inside the door, proclaiming MY belief in Jesus Christ being MY Savior and Lord. 

Since there wasn't a Unity stamp with this scripture, I generated the words on the computer and then die cut using the Stampin' Up Stitched Labels Framelits die.  After inking the edges, I secured it under the colored image.  Lastly I underlined the selected scripture (Revelations 3:20) and added the decorative tag and tape at the top of the page.

I Am Praying For You ~ GIU Day 4

Like all the weeks as Unity Stamps Growing In Unity Girl, it goes by so fast!  I'm so grateful for being selected and having the opportunity to share what I love doing with each of you this week. 

For Day Four, I'm using Unity Stamps 'Cecelia Girl' by artist Angie Blom.  This stamp is my most used Angie Girl of all of the many girls that I own.  I believe God loves to hear our prayers and Cecelia makes the perfect card to send to those who are in need of our prayers and God's comfort.

But today Cecelia Girl is the highlight of Colossians 1:9-14 in my Bible Journaling project.  A little different technique today as we look at Zig markers and embossing.

Zig markers are another one of those products that sat on my shelf for many years, unused, collecting dust.  Until I met the 'Master of Zig Coloring' ... my friend Lynne!  This girl can make these markers talk!  I am just in awe of all her beautiful cards, especially her flowers.  

So inspired by Lynne's work and teaching, I'm using my small set of Zig markers and Canson water color paper for today's page.  I stamped the image and sentiment with Versa Fine Clair Nocturne (Black) ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

 

Then I used the Zig markers with water and a small paint brush to add color to the image.  You can also use a water pen, it's just whatever you're comfortable with.  

I pulled two leaf branch stamps from KOM 04/2015, 'Who We Have Matters'  and stamped them with Altenew's Enchanted Gold Pigment Ink then heat embossed with gold embossing powder.   Next I added my Zigs coloring with a small amount of water in all the tiny spots. 

After fussy cutting out the girl and both sets of leaves, I trimmed the sentiment to fit under the smaller branch of leaves.  I secured the top sentiment onto the page first, then added the leaves above it with a single leaf slightly overlapping.  Next I secured Cecelia Girl just under the COLOSSIANS vertical name and lastly added the larger branch of leaves across the remaining section at the bottom open section.  I underscored the selected scripture with a gold gel pen and added the tab at the top to complete this page.

Blessed are the Meek ~ GIU Day 3

The selected scripture for Day Three is Matthew 5:5 and I have used Phyllis Harris' Unity Stamp package Blessed Are the Meek.

Here's my colorful completed page followed today by LOTS of trial and error which are part of learning any new craft. 

 

The technique for Day Three started out to be sealing the Bible page so that I could stamp straight on the page. Prior to this day I had tried two additional products, both unsuccessfully. 

This time I used Daniel Smith's, Transparent Watercolor Ground being sure I followed their application instructions step by step.  After allowing plenty of drying time,  I used Versa Fine Clair Avocado ink to stamp the image.  I was unsure if this type ink would be okay and as you can see, the image bled through to the back side of the page. Not good...  Although errors crush our souls, I've already learned in this project, you're going to cover the back of the page so just try to learn from it and move on.

Since the page didn't 'seal' as planned, I knew I couldn't use even the slightest water based products so I switched techniques and started over with colored pencils.

Hmmm...  This was the point I told my husband... "The devil is working overtime against me on this page." 

The pencil coloring was too light and the stamped sentiment could barely be seen at all.  I felt like everything I tried just wasn't working out.

I decided to try one more way, determined I wasn't giving up. I had recently purchased a box of adhesive sheets to print shipping labels.  These are standard 8 1/2" x 11" paper size pages split in half on the adhesive side to print two 8.5" x 5.5" labels. After cutting one in half, I stamped the image again, this time with Memento Bamboo Leaves Ink and turned back to my favorites... coloring  her with my Copic markers.  I was THRILLED that the Copics blended well on the adhesive paper!   I also restamped the sentiment with Black Versa Fine Clair ink and die cut it using a postage stamp die.

After fussy cutting around the 'newest' version of the image, being sure I left enough to cover what was already in my Bible, I secured the image and the sentiment to the Bible page.  For the background, I blended Squeezed Lemonade, Pink Raspberry, Wilted Violet, and Blueprint Sketch Distressed Oxides.  Then I die cut the word 'blessed' in coordinating cardstock of the Oxide colors and secured the words randomly over that color. Finally I'm happy with the page.

He Provides ~ GIU Day 2

For my Day Two with Unity Stamps, Growing in Unity, I am sharing another one of my favorite scriptures.  This one is from Isaiah 58:11,

The Lord promises to guide you always, satisfy your needs in a difficult situation, and strengthen you, so that you will be like a well-watered garden, a spring whose waters never fail. 

For this page from my Bible Journaling, I've used Unity Stamps, He Provides by artist Angie Blom, with this beautiful flower bouquet and the shortened version of the scripture.

Today's technique is stamping on Vellum and coloring with Copic markers.

I stamped the flower image on the vellum using the Misti and carefully set it aside to dry for several hours. When I was ready to color the image, I carefully colored on the BACK of the image with the Copics.  I colored with slightly darker colors than normal so they will show through and also colored fairly quickly as the color doesn't have the paper grain to absorb into, thus they dry quickly.   It will look a little blotchy on the back but quite stunning on the front side.

                     

 Next I used DoCrafts Xcut Die Large Nesting Door Plate Die for the flowers and I stamped the sentiment with Versa Fine Clair Glamorous (Deep Pink) and die cut using Spellbinders Label 56. Next I proceeded with adding these on the page and masking them to add the background.  Once secured with book binding glue, I used my 'home made version' of the Art Impression page protector along with the Door Plate die to cover the scriptures and the vellum flowers.

For the stenciled background, I selected the Starlite Diamond slimline stencil and used Distressed Oxides Mowed Lawn and Old Paper.   I also used the edge of the page protector as a guide to add the vertical strip of washi tape.  When all the masking was removed, then I added the die cut Cross at both locations of the scripture and underscored the scripture also with a gel pen. 

I hope you enjoyed learning how this page was created.  I can't wait to do another vellum stamping and back side coloring!   Hope you'll try this technique too!

I Can Do All Things ~ GIU Day 1

For my 2025 week with Growing in Unity, I decided to share with you several ways to use Unity stamps in Bible Journaling.  I must start by saying I am new to this project and learning as I go through each page.  Like our card making and many other crafts, there is no right or wrong way to do this art, it is driven by what your heart feels is right for you. 

My Bible is a very large spiral bound version with wide margins, made for journaling art.  I've referenced it below under the Products section. For me, I prefer to leave the scriptures visible for the most part, although this is an art Bible, not the Bible I use for reading or worship at church.  

Day One ~ I'm starting the week with my favorite scripture ~ Philippians 4:13, and Unity Stamps Maria Girl by Angie Blom.  Here's the finished page and then a little about the steps I took to make this page.

If you don't know my work, I am a Copic colorist and enjoy coloring daily.  For this design, I simply stamped the beautifully drawn Marie Girl on 110# Neenah cardstock and used Copic markers for coloring.  After fussy cutting her out, I inked the edges with Copic RV95 and set her aside.  

I stamped another image and cut out to use as a mask, securing it to the Bible page.  Using the Distressed Oxides referenced below, and a Flower stencil from Stationary Pal, I made the background for the angel to rest in the center of.  Then I added the light pink shade fading from the design to the edges of the page to allow for blending.  I used a very thin line of Lineco Book Binding Glue on the back of the angel and secured her in place of the mask.

The sentiment is from the same package, but wasn't large enough to fit the space needed for this project.  After stamping, I enlarged the image to a square about 2 3/4" and then used the Gina Marie Designs Loopy Square Die for the beautiful edge.  I secured it to the 3" square burgundy cardstock and then added to the page in my Bible.

Hope In His Mercy

Today starts a new Blog Challenge on Word Art Wednesday (Week 693-694) and a new sponsor ~ Pretty Pink Posh Stamps.  Our scripture focus for this challenge is from Psalm 147:11.

For my Design Team card I've combined a single stamp from two packages from this sponsor.  I've used the double branch of flowers from their Flourishing Fuchsias set and one of the hummingbirds from their Hummingbird Thanks set. 

As with a lot of card makers, the fun part of this card was combining the two sets of images from Pretty Pink Posh.  I colored the image with Copic markers, which are referenced below and added a light Copic BG000 background. 

I elected not to use the leaves that are part of the Flourishing Fuchsias set, as I wanted something thinner.  I die cut these from the Penny Black Leaflets set, secured at the base and curled at the outer edge to make them stand out.

After sizing the scripture to fit the card front and printing it, I used My Favorite Things, Label Stax 2 die set for each of the pieces and coordinating fuchsia cardstock.  Next each piece was secured on the green patterned matting background as shown in the photo being sure I left the space between the sets to add the ivory flowered ribbon.  I used the same book binding glue for the ribbon as I do for all my papers and card making. (No wrinkles, doesn't bleed through, extremely strong, etc.)  Lastly I added the different coordinating colors of diamond bling throughout the card.
