Eyes of Nature

I'm here this afternoon in the US posting with the Classic Design Team ~ and one of my personal favorite sponsors, The Paper Shelter.

For the entire Design Team, we are using Eyes Of Nature.  Wait till you see all the beautiful variations of this image!

Here's mine and a few things about how I made it.

We were also given the color digital background paper to use this month.   There are several ways to print your image digitally when you want to use special paper ~ all the way from two separate images and cutting out the design to lay on top of the background to merging into one design for a single printing.  Most are mainly just personal choice.

For this card I used Photoshop Elements and did the background as a layer, then added the girl image as a layer above.   Since I wanted to Copic color my image, I went back to the background layer and used the lighten tool just in the center where the girl's image was, so that the area basically was 'white' when viewed as a total image.

Then I was able to size and print her on Neenah 110# cardstock, my personal preference for Copic coloring.  My markers are referenced below if you'd like to use on one of your images - I'm a big fan of purple hair for fairies or other mystical creatures.

I made the card base to coordinate with the floral patterned digi paper and cut it about 1/4" larger than the image, using a top fold. Then I added a fish tail tag with a small die cut hello and tiny flower. To complete the card I added several tiny diamond bling dots to the center of the flowers in her hair.

Enjoy the Spotlight

Part of our Memorial Day Celebration yesterday was to join in with our 'Dance Family' to celebrate one of the guy's 68th birthday.  His wife threw a huge potluck supper with dancing afterwards in his honor.

I'd like to share the special card that I made for this occasion, using Clearly Besotted, Cha Cha Cha stamp set.

Aren't these little piggies the cutest!

To make this card I stamped each image in the set on Neenah 110# cardstock and used Copic markers for the coloring.

Next I selected Tailored Expressions Square Block Cutting Plate (TF290) for the outline blocking.  I used a standard circle die to cut all of the images except the single male dancer. For that image, I used a stitched circle die to help him stand out.  After all - he's in the spotlight.

The tiny 'disco ball' needed to really sparkle, so I stamped it on silver glitter paper and trimmed it closely.  I also die cut a standard 'Happy Birthday' out of the gold paper that I used for the blocking frame.

The card base is 5 1/2" square, covered with the black, gold and silver shiny paper. After securing the gold blocking outline, then I added each character to the blocks, overlapping the bottom right to be sure he was in the 'spotlight'.  Lastly I added the Happy Birthday sentiment on the left and the white paper inside for writing the birthday message.

Thank You for Keeping Us

Memorial Day 2022

Here we are, the last Monday in May, our day here in the US set aside to honor those in the armed forces who have lost their lives while serving to protect our nation.  How blessed we are that so many have been willing to serve this country proudly.

I'm sharing  a little patriotic card today with an image from Stampendenous, House Mouse, Star Spangled Mice.

While I doubt that this image was drawn in honor of Memorial Day, isn't it perfect for today's celebration?

After stamping the image, I used my Copic markers for coloring (referenced below).  The stitched edges were made using the Pink & Main Stitched Rounded Square die set as well as the yellow matting.

I made the card base out of navy blue cardstock, with a top fold and finished size 5" x 6".  I secured the mat and colored image close to the top fold so that I'd have the additional room at the bottom for the sentiment tag.   Once all of those pieces were securely on the card base, I added the blue organza ribbon at the top fold.  This completed the card design.

A Cheerful Snowman

Time to throw in a Christmas Card for the 2022 stash!

Today I'm sharing this frosty fellow from the Paper Shelter done in monochromatic shades of dark aqua.

The image, 'A Cheerful Snowman', comes with the black/white image, a fully colored image and also a matching paper both with and without the image.  What an assortment!

But for this card, I used the black/white image only.  I selected Copic markers BG70, BG72, BG75 and the coordinating solid and patterned papers.  I also used N8  for his nose and buttons.  As you know in Copic coloring, nothing is truly white.  If you could look closely at the card itself, you could see the snowman has a hint of Copic B60 for the shadowed areas.

I used Quickutz Nesting Frame 7 for the solid matting and the sentiment 'Merry Christmas Tree' was in my bits & pieces file.  After securing each layer as shown in the photo, I added the twine around the top fold and completed the card with a tiny Christmas Tree charm.

Word Art Wednesday ~ 2nd Guest Posting

Today I'm back with the Word Art Wednesday Challenge, again as their May Guest Designer.

The sponsor for this challenge is Stamp Simply and I have selected their set Flourishes #33 for my card today.

For this card, I stamped the single flower three times, spaced apart, and used my Copic markers for coloring.  I carefully hand cut each one out and laid them to the side.

After printing the scripture for this week from 2 Timothy 2:4, I used the Gina Marie Designs Label 3 die to cut the decorative edge and also cut the solid purple matting.  I secured those together.

I trimmed the vertical patterned paper to 5 1/2" square and added the sentiment in the center vertically and just to the right of center horizontally.

On the back of each of the cut out flowers, I added a small foam square to the center.  Then starting at the top, I glued the stem and leaf down but allowed the foam dot to adhere the flower itself.  This continued for the second and third flowers, ensuring the third curved slightly so the stem flowed under the scripture.

The black card base is 6" square, covered with the same solid as the matting behind the scripture.  To complete the card, I secured the decorated card front to the base ensuring everything was secure.

I again would like to thank Karen at Word Art Wednesday and her wonderful Design Team ladies - they do an amazing job with their mission.  Thank you for allowing me to design with you this month.

Beacon of Light

Today's card is one of the simplest to make - it's 'style' is called Clean and Simple.

I've used Altenew's Hanging Lights to make this card of encouragement.

Yet for me, it's one of my struggles.  I'm not a huge fan of 'white space' on a card. I like the spaces to be full, especially of color!  And of course a nice bow or twine!

But this tiny stamp is made to show off just what it's doing.
Being the center of attention all by itself!

The sentiment is small, so I've pulled it out so you can see it.  It's so perfect for this small stamp.

Isn't that a great thing for us to do today?

How's The View From There?

Today I'm sharing an 'Over The Hill' masculine card I made for a friend's birthday.

Every now and then you run across a stamp that resembles a person you actually know.  This happened to be the case when I came across the 'Trevor' stamp on the C. C. Designs website.

Thankfully he arrived in time to make this card but then my creative wheels had to get busy - it's just the image of the man, and this is a milestone birthday!

I landed on Angie Blom's Dream Big Mountains digital package to start the background for this card.

Here's the completed card ~

As with all digitals, it was wonderful to have the option of 'all the mountains' in her package to choose from.  I took several 'slices' to decide which one fit the character the best.

Once I'd decided and printed it to the A2 size card front, I used Copic markers for coloring the background and the man.  I hand cut the man image out and set him aside.  Then I added the black matting to the mountain background after trimming everything to fit in the space.  Lastly I added the fishtail cut sentiment and then the Birthday man.

It's a lot of fun to me to use stamps from different companies.  Adding the digital images with the stamps continues to open more ways to use your supplies and create new and beautiful things.   Thanks for stopping by to allow me to share mine.

Look Who's Turning 60!

It's not every day that your little brother turns the big 6-0!

So I thought I'd share the special card I made for him today and a few of our family photos from lunch today.

I've laughingly told my friends that Mike and I are the only two adults that were 'weirdly raised' to called this sandwich a different name.

The question is - 'What do YOU call the sandwich you make when you mash up boiled eggs?'

'Egg Salad Sandwich' right?

Well we were raised to call it a Deviled Egg sandwich - right or wrong - that's what we have always called it.  I know - the only two in the whole world!  You just have to know that for the card to make sense....

Well deviled, scrambled, fried or whatever, I've seriously got the best brother ever and I love him dearly!

My husband and I made a cake to take to our surprise lunch for him also.... I know ... Me Make A Cake?

Well how about a Toilet Paper Cake!

And then we settled down for a nice family lunch of BBQ, rice & hash, green beans, slaw & hush puppies, followed by lime cream pie for dessert.

With full tummies, we waddled to the den to rest and enjoy a few old stores about Mike's childhood.

There's nothing quite like homemade memories, especially for special birthdays!
Here's to many more little brother~ Love you!

You're A Legend

For this week's Polkadoodles challenge we're focusing on Men and Boys cards.  I'm sure you will enjoy all the wonderful cards the Design Team has created to inspire you!  You can click HERE to go over to the the Challenge Blog to see all the cards and to enter yours too.

But first let me share with you what I did for my project card.  I've used Knight Dragon from the Little Dudes Collection and made a mini slimline masculine birthday card.

Isn't this little guy adorable?  Especially with his pet dragon, he's certainly only a fierce knight in his dreams!

I've colored the image with Copic markers and hand cut it out.  I also printed the 'You're a Legend' sentiment on a 2" strip of white cardstock.

I wanted my card to look like the little knight was dreaming of all the castles he could conquer, so I stenciled several along a few scrap strips of white cardstock.  Then I die cut each strip with several miscellaneous cloud dies and inked the outside edge in red. I also used the cloud dies to cut on both sides of the sentiment, leaving several inches of white space to the left to have room to mount the boy.

For the base I started with the black & white brick background paper, then secured the clouds towards the top.  I added the sentiment cloud at the bottom, then secured the colored image on top. You may notice, he is glued at the bottom but popped up from the shoulder up.  This really adds dimension to the card. Next I measured for the base and cut the background black cardstock to fit my image. This base ended up being 4 1/4" x 6 1/2".  Don't be afraid to make an odd sized card.  Get out of that A2 box ~ you can do it!

Pretty in Peach

Today I'm sharing Unity Stamp's Care and Hope Iris by Sandhya Iyer.

I love this stamp image because it's large bold image makes a statement by filling the card with it's beauty. Like the actual iris, it stands tall and lovely no matter what color palette you select to color it.

For this image I colored it with Copic markers R20, R21, and R22 and used G21, G24, G28, Y18 for the leaves and stem.

I selected a burnt orange matting for the A2 card base.  Next I die cut the colored image with a simple oval die, using the largest one in the set that would fill the A2 card front.

For this card, I elected to stop here.  No sentiment, no bow, nothing else is needed.  It's perfect just like this.

Inside the left cover I added...

Sit Down....

Do you ever color an image and love how it turns out.... but then you just can't seem to find the right sentiment to go with it?  You know, everything you put with it either is too mushy, boring, or just plain wrong.

Well that is what happened to me with this image from C.C. Designs.  It's a DoveArt (DA1006-discontinued) older image that I stamped and colored a couple of months ago.  And then I ran across this sentiment from Cas-ual Friday Stamps, Hot Coffee Set and remembered the cat!

Oh yes!  I think we have a match!

The heart die frame was gifted and the background paper has a soft tint of purple that works well with the purple cardstock frame.  I also inked the sentiment edge with the same shade of purple. It all pulled together nicely.
