What A Wonderful Thought

Earlier this year I received a Unity Stamp set for my birthday and was so surprised!  What a special friend to gift Unity!!!

Today is HER birthday, and today's featured card is what I designed for her, using the set she sent to me.

This is Unity's, Beautiful IS NEVER Perfect, by designer Angie Blom.

After stamping I wanted to keep it clean and simple so I picked two Copic shades of dusty pinks and two of browns.  Alternating the leaves with these made a quick and beautiful image.  The embellishment is one of the stamps and it added to the brown twine.  I couldn't leave out a little sparkle - so I added tiny gold hearts also. 

The sentiment is absolutely amazing!

What a wonderful thought it is

that some of the best days of our

lives haven't happened yet.

I Will Always Look Out For You

As I said in yesterday's blog, today's card continues showing Father's Day and a Birthday card that I used stamped images to identify family members.

The first one I made for my nephew who is an awesome single parent.  I am so proud of him and his accomplishments. 

Again I added stamps from different companies to make 'his family'.  The Father with the daughter on his shoulders is  from Unity, First Love, First Hero by Angie Blom.

 I also added the young girl from Stampin Up, Seaside Sketches and the boy is a miscellaneous digital download. The sentiment is from the Unity, Looking Out for You also by Angie Blom. In this one  the die cuts used are from the Spellbinder Label Thirty Seven set.

I love how this card turned out and didn't want to stop this new family theme.  Needing a birthday card for my son-in-law was next on my planner, so I continued with the Unity First Love, First Hero stamp and the download image of the boy.  This allowed me to make his card personal to show his family. 

The top sentiment is from Unity, Looking out for you. The embellishments on this one are plastic beads that I baked to make the dots and a miscellaneous Happy Birthday stamp.

Masculine cards are a challenge for most of us.  But making them a 'family' card was a fun adventure of crafting for me.  I hope you will try it out too!

It Matters Not...

I wanted to make a card for my son who particularly has a lot on his shoulders right now.  His best friend is fighting brain cancer, his daughter is getting married in several weeks, and everyone depends on him to help them.  

I'm of course very proud of him and just wanted him to know I'm thinking about him. As I worked on the card, it ended up being more for both him and his wife.  
 For some reason my last several cards have ended up being very large!  This one is 6" x 8 1/4".  Here the finished card - the front (two shots) , then inside; followed by the stamps that I used for your reference.

Such a very wise sentiment!  It is from the Unity, KOM 4/15, Who We Have Matters.  The male image is also Unity, Forrest Guy. 

Two page tab are die cut below him and tied loosely with coordinating yarn. 

Behind the front tabs are Unity stamps that look so very much like my two grand daughters~  The left image is the planner girl, Love Them. How appropriate for Destiny who is getting married soon.    On the right is the girl image from Unity KOM 4/16 Without Fear, Without Limits.  I've colored her to look like Skyla, with her bright and thick beautiful braided hair.  These two girls are the world to my son!

And inside, I added Missing You Girl to represent his wife who is always at my son's side, loving and supporting him.  Together they have a beautiful family for sure.  

Lastly I added the Laugh when you can sentiment from the Unity Fluttering Affection set.  With his heavy heart as he visits his friend as much as possible, I know that our good Lord will help them both through this situation.

Helen Keller Said...

Life is either a great adventure or nothing.

As I worked on a masculine card for the current Unity challenge, this sentiment by Helen Keller seemed to fit what I was trying to put together.  

I was reminded of a long time friend from my working days, who no matter how hard the job was or how frustrating, he would always be the one who encouraged us and kept us heading in the right direction. He knew that we were all on a great adventure even when it felt like a roller coaster.  Years later what great memories I have of our friendship and the adventures of running a Power House. 

As you can see I used several different Unity stamps to make this masculine collage card.  The male image is Forrest Guy and the truck is from the set A Guy and His Truck, both by Angie Blom.  The background stamp is made by Stamp-It Australia, named Dreamer Once in a Lifetime. The sentiment is from Phyllis Harris' set Life's an Adventure.

To me, it is important to remember our friendships along life's journey.  Our paths cross for a reason and telling someone how important they are to you, or the impact they have had in your life is a tremendous act of giving.

He Calms the Restless Sea Around Us

Can you tell I've been working really hard on masculine cards for the last few weeks?  Many crafters' will agree with me that for the most part, masculine cards are hard to find a great image, find the right embellishments and sentiments... and thus get avoided.

However, it does seem that my two favorite stamp company's, Whimsy Stamps and Unity Stamps, have gone all out this year to provide us (or my inventory!) a great selection of images and sentiments.   

Today featured card is one of those - from Whimsy Stamps called ANCHOR, by DoveArt.  With my love of the lake and beach, I really enjoyed working on this card.  I hope you will like it also.

The stamped image was Copic colored and all for rectangles were cut with the Gina Marie X Stitched Rectangle Die set.   The blue water strip was achieved by using the 'Wooden Tree' embossing folder, as the grains in the tree also look like waves of the ocean.  The sentiment is from Our Daily Bread, Anchor. I used a 5 x 7 Kraft card stock base and covered it with a distressed blue background, then added all the pieces.  My card is finished off with gray crochet thread and a lovely silver starfish.

Kitty-ology for Your Graduate

This was a quick card I made for a Graduation Challenge on one of the card sites.  It is from Whimsy Stamps and is by designer Crissy Armstrong.  Kitt-ology is a great image for any graduate or even for a reward card for summer library club.

Those are such stylish glasses aren't they?  

After coloring, I used Gina Marie's Square Stitched Frames for all the die cut pieces.  Then a small loopy white bow and a sparkly gold heart finishes off the card.

Father's Day ~ Gone Fishing

Today I'd like to share another Father's Day card that could of course be used any time of the year.

This image is from Whimsy Stamps, Gone Fishing by DoveArt.  As with all DoveArt images, even the tiniest detail is drawn and incorporated into the red rubber stamp. 

After Copic coloring I fussy cut the image and then added a deep red matting that I also fussy cut.  I put a scrap of light green down the side of the blue background rectangle and then added the car image and the banner sentiment to this piece.  Carefully I tied the embroidery floss around and knotted with a wooden star.  Then the entire piece is mounted on an A2 card base.

Welcome to the Ronald McDonald House

As part of a month long challenge on Christian Card Makers, we have volunteered to make 30 cards apiece to be used in the Welcome Baskets that families receive when they arrive at the Ronald McDonald House. 

Our effort this time is going to the Levine Children's Cancer Center in Charlotte, NC.

Although we can do different designs, I decided to make mine the same stamped image and use a variety of background papers.

I selected a cute daisy stamp from Unity Stamp Company, 

and these are my finished products, ready for mailing. 

Since I had such a large quantity to make I tackled it in stages. 

The smaller image didn't require a lot of shading, so I was able to use a handful of Copics.

Once colored, I then used the Spellbinder S5-014, Deckled Mega Small Rectangle die for each image.

The requirement was that each card have WELCOME or JUST FOR YOU on the front.  

And then another 30 runs through the die machine using Spellbinder Deco Rectangles to get the background pieces

Let the assembly begin - tying brown twine, adding the tag and a loopy bow...

and mounting the background onto the A2 card base, then adding the flower image and gluing down the Welcome tag.

Whew! That's a lot of card making!  But what a great feeling knowing they will add that little personal touch to the baskets the families receive. I'm honored that we have this opportunity to donate our cards to this charity.
